Forum Use

This is an interesting thread, hope you don't mind if I chip in.
My forum habits are similar to others who have posted - I subscribe to those parts of the forum that interest me and also take a look at the Latest Posts list to see if something catches my eye.

I agree with some of the comments above regarding R2 facebook - yes it is fairly easy to use but it's not an effective communications tool. With less that a third of R2 members registered in the FB group the most reliable way to reach the entire R2 membership is via the Mailchimp e-mail system and only the RO uses this.

In some respects this Forum and the R2 FB group are similar:
- any member can sign up to use these facilities but not everyone does,
- only a handful of folk actually post anything original - the rest simply read what's been posted by others and maybe occasionally post a response (absolutely nothing wrong with that of course).

I somehow doubt an interactive facebook group is a panacea for all ills, but that's just my view.

Having said that, I don't have a solution either.

I think people worry too much about the people that don’t come to meetings, don’t read the forum and don’t use Facebook.

For those that do like to keep in touch with other owners, keep abreast of Porsche updates and other general car related themes, Facebook with it’s many groups is by far the best way to do this.

Every PCGB member gets a regular magazine that, if they read it, would let them know that things are happening in their region. They will also get the regular emails with updates. If they don’t respond to regular prompts, then they probably are just not interested in interacting. The events we have are usually oversubscribed anyway.

I am following this thread with interest and agree with the criticism of facebook as a communication tool as being operated by R1. The one thing that stands out on this thread is that the comments have been made by regular and active members of the club and yet the notable omission is that there has been no comment or response from our RO. Perhaps this is one reason for Alan’s comment that "This is not currently the relaxed enjoyable region it was”.

I check the forum daily, and contribute regularly on my post regarding experiences with my 718 Cayman S PDK.

The forum is for information and news from other contributing members. It's definitely not an RO communicating tool for forthcoming events. I receive direct emails from my RO for those.

The forum is more for those members wanting info on model specific developments, track day events or experiences, modifying, technical articles, and a for sale and wanted social media service. It is excellent in that regard.

I do not subscribe to Facebook. Never used it and never will.

I consider the Forum to be a very informative and helpful source of information and chatter on topics concerning all aspects of owning and driving our cars.

Being fairly new to Porsche ownership, TBH I have found the 911UK forum to be a favoured first port of call, though occasionally have a look on this forum to see if there’s anything new and then ponder over the merits of full membership (do I get shot for saying this? [:-]).

I enjoy reading and learning from other folks forum posts and would hope to contribute myself to the regional forum at some point the near future.

A daily user, occasional contributor and lapsed member.

The Forum works well enough for my taste, I use the Regions section to view what events are planned.

You pays your money and takes your choice as they say.

I've already posted but I'll add: the Forum works well for me. I don't like Facebook and even less so in recent times. It's a personal thing but I've had my account hacked several times and even in a locked-down mode it is far too public for my liking.

But if people want to use Facebook 'fill yer boots' to use another saying

I'd also like to add that I think the Club is fabulous and the only thing I'd change is people complaining in public. Fine if there are no other channels (don't get me started on Ember Inns) but if you've got issues speak with Donald or Scott directly both of whom in my opinion do a fantastic job and its not forget on a voluntary basis

My car is fantastic and I love the brand. But what makes it for me is the Club. Prompted to repost having seen the request for additional support from the West. If the Club can be made better then make it so!

I check the forum regularly, I'm Region 4 and don't see much in the way of posts or events/meets for the region unfortunately. would be nice to see more 'activity'.

Jim

I'm region 4, unfortunatly there seams to be little to no activity on this forum and no R4 Facebook group.
Shame really!

I’m a recent member and look around here once a week or less.
Don’t see much activity, in my Hi message, I also gave up trying to add a group of pictures via iphone after about 30mins trying. This site seem harder than any others I’m in to add photos via a phone (tapatalk enabling also makes it easier, this forum doesn’t) so cant see me adding many pics to the forum.

I’m in a few other forum groups that have been running a while and all have much reduced traffic both through Facebook use and also conversational apps like whatapps, messenger chats etc formed across groups of friends both due to ease of use and to avoid negativity on forums. These don’t really replace a forum although replace much of the banter that typically goes on which I feel is a shame.

I like to use forums for knowledge gain, general conversation and to share information and understand details pre and post a meet up (eg sharing pictures etc). Also makes it easier for a newbie to understand a bit of history of the people and group, who has and had what cars and what region stuff happened in the past.

To me a shame if the above stuff disappears over time.

Would be good to maintain some dialogue and discussion even if it is limited here.
At least Facebook is used for Scotland south to share events and photos and much easier than using this forum on a phone !

Even though I'm not from the region I'll add my bit. I tend to have a scan through 'latest posts' daily to see what's going on and have a genuine interest in all models across the brand. Also in Facebook and Instagram but find the ability to search for knowledge and answers is just lost on social media.

Long live forums.

Why not come along top one of our monthly club meetings. You will be able to meet some of the faces behind the posts.
