I did about 3000 miles in France last year, I only had to put up with one prat on the road, who came down Mont Ventoux right down the middle of the road on a straight section and beeped his horn at me for not moving out of the way enough. Yep - you've guessed it. The car was a British registered Ford Mondeo!
The Autoroutes, despite being fairly expensive are just so, unbelievably smooth. I didn't realise the indicators on my 968 make a tick-tock sound, until I drove the car on French Autoroutes! The roads in Northern France are also unbelievably empty off season. Empty roads = driving heaven! The other roads can vary a bit in surface quality, sometimes the surfacing can be a bit noisy, but I can't ever remember seeing broken roads or potholes.
I'll be back in September [
