In a thread I put about harnesses a while ago, Melv suggested I change the burgundy interior:

So whats the plan then Steve? what you replacing it with? or are you weight saving?

Did you uncover any surprises?

What seats have you got there? Recaros, any other pics?

A). Will you be fitting an RS carpet set?

B). Does anybody actually take any notice of what Melv suggests?

Evening Paul and Rich.

As far as surprises go, that came before Christmas when I found the cause of excessive condensation inside - the sound proofing under the rear seats was soaking wet because the quarter window seals have been leaking. Obviously for some time. So, I brought forward the idea of fitting a lightweight carpet set and ditching all the heavy stuff.

Yes the seats are Recaro Pole Positions - I've had them for at leas a couple of years.

Will post some more pics when I get the time.

:)

Hey Paul, it's Rich. I'm the guy on Rennlist, who has a brother who lives in Dortmund, who has a neighbour who works at the ThyssenKrup factory that makes Bilstein shock absorbers and provided the answer to your question on Rennlist all those years ago. Would be good to meet you in person sometime.

Steve - get all that soundproofing out and fit a lightweight carpet. You know it makes sense. :)

Hey Rich,
Small world. You were extremely helpful, thankfully we got it sorted. Seems an age ago now. Yes, sure would be good to meet up. If you are ever up this way, I'm not far from Chester, don't hesitate to drop me a line.
Do you ever get to Oulton for the track days?

Steve,
No more misting up then, hey. Bet your pleased you'll have that sorted.
I see you got your carpet from the US, was that due to price?

Yes Paul, worked out at £325 including shipping and import tax.

Here's an idea of the water that had been accumulating under the seat pads:

Lots of redundant wiring (old alarms) that formed part of the clear out:

Lots of elbow grease and solvent cleaning and I'm starting to get there:

Hey Steve, you'll have that looking like new in no time. You're making good progress given that that adhesive is 20+ yerars old.
Will be a shame to cover it all up again.

You could do with a nice Momo Prototipo in there once you fitted the carpet. It'll finish it all off very nicely! [:D]

Paul, I'll be at the Oulton RS day. Might bump into you if you're there.

Hey Steve,I see you've taken out your parcel shelf to enable you to strip out the carpets. Did you find any connections for a third brake light there as per the rennlist thread? I'm interested as I bought a cheap 12 led light to install especially if there is an existing connection. Good luck with the carpets! Brian (friend of Paul - Polar 964)

Hi Brian, indeed I haven't forgotten about the 3rd brake light plug. There's no obvious plug when removing just the parcel shelf. However, I've found a couple of plugs after removing the sound proofing that sits behind it. I have it on my list to check these out (battery has been disconnected while doing all the work) and will report back. [:)]

Not necessarily so. Give us a chance and I'll let you know, hopefully this weekend (I have to do normal work during the week [;)] )

So, these carpets then Steve - proper silverknit material or an alternative? Fully trimmed and ready to glue in? There's something like 15+ pieces, yes?

I'm needing the same as I'm doing a complete interior change. Southbound Trimmers - just over £700, Pelican - $800 plus shipping. Who did you get yours from? Pics when you can Steve...

No idea mate! It's described as lightweight RS carpet set, plush. Here's the link:

http://appbiz.com/rsstylecarpetset1965-1973911912coupesoemmatchdarkcharcoalperlonfelt-2-1-1-1.aspx

By the time it was delivered and VAT paid, the total cost was £325. More than happy with quality of it. Here are some of the panels taken out still covered with the old carpet:

and recovered with the new carpet:
