Front Luggage Compartment

My 1984 3.2 Carrera has a lockable front luggage compartment. My problem is the ignition key does not appear to be the key to use to lock it? The ignition key pushes 3/4 of the way into the lock but that is all. Any suggestions would be much welcomed. Thanks.

Check your owner's manual - for my 88 it depicts the ignition key being used and when I checked it indeed works.

The last cm of key's blade doesn't go into the lock cylinder.

Thanks for that. I shall try it again it could be just a case of under use.

Mine definitely was the ignition key, the ignition lock has not been changed has it? Are door locks the same key? If so try a little wd40 in the lock first

I assume we are talking about the glove box, not the under bonnet?

My ignition keys does the glove box, but my luggage bay isn't key lockable.

Geoff I am just trying the old WD40 trick. Initially the key would not enter fully into the lock, that has now been sorted. Will just keep trying to ease it. The master key fits all other locks on the vehicle. Thanks.

Some vehicles have a locking front luggage compartment, mine is one of them. Trouble is the barrel of the lock will not rotate. It could be that it has not been used very often. Thanks for the reply.

The lock is incorporated into the pull handle. Very similar to an up and over garage door handle. I think the tumblers are stuck uppermost in the barrel as when the key is inserted the tumblers feel to have no spring resistance as they align. When I have a moment I shall see if I can take a photo of the assembly for you.

Hi Ray,
Mine is an '89 Cab and it has the barrel lock which utilises the ignition key.

Turn key anti-clockwise to lock.

Try giving the barrel a gentle tap with a small hammer when the key is inserted to see it this encourages the tumblers to move (or free themselves).

Good luck!

Ray never seen a locking front bonnet, have you a photo were the lock is situated.
My '84 UK Coupe has the locking front bonnet, the lock is located centrally in the pull handle. When locked the handle can't be pulled out. Interestingly, it is not referred to in the original handbook (covering all Carreras and the Turbo) and the handbook picture shows a bonnet pull without a lock.

The cars were originally delivered with three types of keys, locking wheel nut keys (not relevant to the original question), master keys (the ones with the black head with light in it) and secondary keys (with a smaller red handle without a light). The master key fitted all locks, the secondary key only fitted the doors and the ignition. The idea was you could leave your car with a valet, or garage, and they could not gain access to a locked glove compartment, or bonnet, if you only gave them the red handled secondary key.

You're not the only one, me too (hangs his head in shame...)!

Normally, the software you use for downloading your images from either your phone or camera will have a rotate image option. When you edit your images colour, crop etc the rotate option is generally on that same task bar? Running short of time for me to take a look at my own system as there is an anomaly when rotating an image to make it stay rotated.

Hi Ray,

I've tried rotating the original image in the photo album, then downloading it and it still appears upside down on my profile!

Perhaps I should relocate to Oz!!

When you have the rotate on your header and you apply to rotate there should/could be in the rotational drop down box the following message: Rotate actual images, if you tick the box then the image will remain rotated if not the image will revert to originality.
Try it out and you may see the information to secure the rotate.
