Front splitter

Saw a couple of 944s at Husbourne on saturday in the car park with front splitters fitted, was wondering where they can be purchased from as they looked a very nice aftermarket addition.

They were Probably Rick and John's, in which case they are both the Essential Styling carbon fibre ones.

One went on ebay for £58 last night so keep your eye's peeled in case any more come up. Don't think it was as smart as the CF ones from Essential Styling but you can't go wrong for that money.

I'm a bit of a splitter expert now as I'm on my second one. As Fen said Beaky and WUF were at Husborne (and I didn't see any others with splitters).

Beakys first splitter was a bit deeper and didn't last the year [:(]. The ESS splitter is a little higher but has, none the less been hit a few times (generally when bottoming out at speed on undulating roads). I am considering introducing some aluminium skid rails to the underside to help reduce the potential for damage.

The ESS splitter, unlike some cheap imitations (clubautosport), is a complete tray and so is far more robust than some which are just screw on front lips. Knowing what abuse a splitter takes, I wouldn't want anything less. It is a big piece of bodywork and were it to come off at speed on a motorway it could cause a very nasty accident.

Does anyone make one for the lux model,i am toying with the idea of trying to get hold of one and letting a friend i have who has his own carbon fibre business make me one, then if the price is ok maybe look to get a few made and sell them on here or e bay.

there is one available for the lux model, i saw one on ebay recently looked awesome on the car, i dont have a clue where you get them from sorry.

If you find out let me know cause i would be interested too ;)

These look very similar to the Strosek front splitter, which I almost bought.

Having lived with a splitter for some time I would urge caution and suggest that you don't under estimate the reduction in ground clearance.

Ricks car WUF runs higher than Beaky and even that shows signs of front edge contact.

The main problem with splitters is that they project forward so not only are they low but the also reduce (what is known in off roading circles) your angle of attack. This pretty much means you can't get on or off slopes that are more than relatively shallow.

If you are tanking along and hit a bit of a dip in the road this can also cause the splitter to ground out.

They may look good but £300+ is a lot to cough up on something which can only be considered a disposable item. [8|][:(]

So far we have managed to destroy only one splitter. One of us had difficulties a year ago when it was quite icy during spring time. With this accident he also lost 4 new wheels and 4 new Michelin Pilot Sports... Luckily we have our own splitter molds, so it was not so expensive to fabricate a new splitter for him.Total cost was about 5 euros [:D]
Wheels & tires were covered by insurance

I always believed that they mostly reduce lift rather than actually providing downforce. I have noticed a difference by simply driving without the standard undertray at high speeds, the front is noticeably lighter so it must be doing something.

See the later part of this post for some good info on spoilers and down force...(if you havnt already...)[:)]
Anybody have one of these fitted
