Fuel Consumption 944 S2

A mate has just bought his first Porsche, a 1990 S2 and is a little bemused as to what the fuel consumption should be, he said its scarey the amount that is disappearing from the tank.
Roughly what do you get to a gallon ?
and per tank full please ?

I always brim the tank when I fill up, usually taking 70 - 75 litres.

Around town I get 200 - 250 miles between fills, 12 - 16 mpg
On a run I can get 350 - 400 miles, up to 25 mpg.

Over a recent 1500 miles I averaged 16.5 mpg

On the track I can get it much lower.

I don' t let the tank get too empty, so it' s about 50-60 litres when I fill up, which gets me about 300-350 miles. Average MPG is about 28, although it depends on how many ' full-throttle-redlining-it' moments I have! [;)]

Elliot,

If I brim the tank on my S2 when the warning light comes on it will take 63 litres (14 gallons). I can then do between 400-430 miles before the light comes on again which equates to about 30mpg. This is mostly motorway and A road commuting with a little bit of town work. Worst ever was just over 300 miles IIRC

The guage seems to race down to 3/4 after only 70 miles then half way at 150, a quarter see' s 300 and the light comes on around 400. My book says the S2 has a 70 litre total so there is 7 litres still in there when the light comes on

As you can see, I have a Cabriolet, so the fuel consumtion is not as good as the coupe, but I normally get between 300 and 350 out of a tank before the light comes on, depending on what type of driving I have done.

I must admit that I haven' t got 400 from a tank, even when on long journeys, but as I said the fuel consumption is worse on a Cab.

Most of my driving is " stop start" stuff, so I reacon I don' t get much better than 15 - 18mpg.

Regards

Phil

Maybe I should pop up for one of your club nights [&:]

I missed this as I' ve had computer problems this week, but I regularly get 400 - 430 per tank out of my cabrio, mostly motorway at slightly over 70 (maybe 25 over 70 ;) ). I' m running the 18' s on it just now as well, which won' t help the economy.

I used to get much the same from my S2 coupe. My Turbo was actually better after it' s fettling despite getting a bit more full throttlery.

My turbo is giving me an average of 330 miles per tank. I´m similar to sean in that the tank near fills to 70 litres when empty. Ususlly 63/65/69 etc. So i´ll assume 70 sounds right, any way i´ve never got over 400 miles out of a tank even on a long run, not quite sure what´s up here. The engine is in perfect running order and tight, just after service etc. On a long run i might get 360 miles. Use the car ever day in and out of work, about 150 miles a week, but don´t really use the turbo during these runs, so maybe the mixture is too rich? Anyone any advice on getting better fuel economy out of a turbo, maybe a 924 for the daily run about!!!!

Cheers
G

My turbo used to run 360-370 on a tank until I had the top end rebuild, MAF conversion etc. It jumped to 420+ immediately after that.

Average MPG is about 28

I get the same on my ' 90 S2, mostly used on A and B roads.
For what it' s worth I once managed a 650 kms non-stop trip on the German Autobahns at speeds between 150 and 220 kph.
