Fuel warning light.

I nearly did it - because I was thinking of taking one of my aluminium bezels (because I don't have the coloured dials as well which always look a bit low rent IMO because of the cut-outs for the warning lights).

Anyhow I couldn't because after 35 miles with the light on I filled up - 72.19 litres in my cab.

Well it looks like it's going to be me [8|] Half way to work this morning and the light came on, just short of a motorway service station. So I pulled in and took the pic (camera was armed and primed just for this purpose [8|]).

It was pretty dark so had to use the flash, I'll see what it looks like when I get home and upload from the camera.

My light comes on just as the needle has gone through the red zone and has appeared the other side [:eek:] but I know from previous experience that I have two more gallons in there - one day that bulb will fail [&:]

Cheers, my needle was at the other side of the light, but not on... Mind i only got 65l into the tank! Will pop a 5l can in the boot as it gets closer and see if i can get that light on. Wonder if i can reset the needle!!
 
Actually you can. I have not done this but those white dial kits that you can buy often come with a small tweezer type tool to remove the needles. If you do find that yours is on wonky then you can reposition it (or your bulb has blown so keep that 5L can handy) [:eek:]

I must admit to having similar concerns when I first got my car ( only reading 3/4 full and warning light not coming on ). A simple way to alay your fears is to lift the " boot " carpet then remove the large black bung in the floor above the fuel tank, this gives access to the fuel level sender unit etc. Remove the wiring plug ( three pin ) and with the ignition on connect between the earth pin ( brown ) and the other two pins in turn. I cant remember which pin is which but one will show the fuel gauge as reading full and the other will light the warning light, if it doesnt light then suspect a faulty bulb. If the gauge still reads 3/4 full then the needle can be repositioned on its shaft to read full. The warning light is dependant on the amount of fuel in the tank ( supposed to be 13 Litres ) and not on the needle position before it comes on.
Lots of words but only takes a few minutes to check.

Brill mate, will give it a go at the weekend. Does the bung just screw off or pull off?
 
Its a hard plastic bung 150mm diameter that just pushes in. Just checked mine out again and it took less than 3 minutes ( including unlocking and locking up the garage door afterwards. ) [8|]
