Gen 2 997 C4S Order Placed

PCM3 in my opinion is a vast improvement on PCM2.

I've not had any issues searching for POI (such as RAF Hendon) and it has performed extremely well on my regular London-Teesside trips when any traffic issues occur.

Also think the touch screeen is a massive improvement. The phone and ipod integration is pretty seamless. I also didn't even pick up the manual but found it quite intuative and I'm still finding options I didn't know about.

I would like it to display the junction names on the motorways however, so if anyone can help on that score I'd appreciate it.

Regards
Mark

Maybe my particular system is duff! Can anyone try inserting this address: 33 Sunnycroft, Downley, High Wycombe, HP13 5UQ.

But I do agree PCM 3 has quite a few advantages over PCM 2, though it is the Sat Nav that I address my comments about. As for touch screen, trouble is it soon get covered in my grubby finger prints. I also would like 6 figure post code; that would solve most of my problems. Why has it not got this facility?? All other systems have it.

Nevertheless, my screen does display junction names... Curious? Maybe there are several versions of PCM3.

Just tried it, Derek, and mine will go to Sunnycroft but there's a message at the bottom saying that house no's are not possible! 6 figure postcodes would be the solution. Mine shows junction names too. Anti-static screen wipes are best for grubby fingers![:D]

Hi Derek,

I'll have a try at that address tonight and let you know how long it takes.

I'll also let you know how long it will take me to drive there, don't mind what's for dinner tonight ;-)

As for the junction numbers, I think I might need to RTFM!

Hi Alan, thanks for that. My point entirely. Yes, mine finds the road, but not the house... and it is a long road. It is just that the database is insufficiently populated. PCM 2 was fine with this address.

Anyone else have trouble is house numbers?

Can you still put in the Lat and Lon on the PCM 3 as you could on the PCM 2

If you can ,just go on multi map.com put in the postcode and it gives you the Lat and Long cordence once inputted into the Nav gives perfect directions

i use it a lot for flying to different places

Yes, Brett, you can put in Lat and Long. Bit of a faff, though! Interestingly, they've got the input for that the wrong way round too, i.e Long first then Lat. In the early days of INS in aircraft you had to put in each waypoint by entering the Lat and Long and it took ages. Now you hit half a dozen keys and you can input a whole route. You'd think these days we could jump in our car, hit the screen a few times and go to any address in the country, with no faffing!

The three worst things to hear in the cockpit:
The second officer says, "Oh sh*t!"
The first officer says, "I have an idea!"
The captain says, "Hey, watch this!"

i find it astounding that Porche cannot get satnav right. I"ve a gen 1 997 and frankly the satnav is garbage. I have a tom tom in the glove box for when i need directions. Why doenst porsche just outsource the comms thing to a satnav specialists. As you say, 80k for a car and the satnav is worse than a ford version

Hi Derek

Yes Swindon have confirmed it will be May, however, I can include the Sports Exhaust on the order and pay for it in March, at the options price (not the accessory price), and they will swop it over free of charge in May, which seems very fair.

Hi Robert,

I'm still waiting for PSE after collecting my Gen 2 months ago. Swindon now tell me PSE not available until May 09 []

You might like to read my article in PP reference options (June 08). I was put off PCCB due to the high cost of replacement and thus lower residuals.

I hope they sort out PCM by the time you get your car.

Robert, my arrangement with Swindon is that I pay when they fit and at the options price. Do you really want to pay in March and then wait until May 2011? You think I'm joking?

Derek

Thanks for the info. If they cannot supply the exhaust by the stated date May/June 2009 (not 2011), they will have to refund me......

Cheers

Thanks for all the feedback guys...

Oh Well.. despite the expensive finance, rubbish sat nav, faulty PCCBs, and the delayed sports exhaust... I am still really looking forward to getting my new car. Off to Silverstone on Friday to check out all the colours, and options, and do the final specification..
