GEOMETRY and TRACKDAY tyres

Are you tracking the car Bruce?

Would be good to get your feedback as soon as you can.

I've know of a few people who rate the R888's but don't they don't drive 911's.

Andy

Yes, I've got five days booked up with PCGB so far. The first day is at Castle Coombe on the 1 April. I'll let you know then

The car has also had quite a few suspension upgrades over the winter to make the best of the tyres, April seems a long way off at the moment!

Please share all the details, I am interested as are others I assume.

Hi Richard

I have been running the car with standard suspension with a new set of Bilstein HD's, lowering , corner weights and alignment, but no change to front camber other than that induced by lowering. The car ran great like this for three years but the picture below shows the car had reached its limits( hope the picture works, I have always struggled with posting pictures on this board!!!)

So the car has been modified with larger front and rear anti roll bars from the later 86 carrera, 26mm turbo rear torsion bars, strengthened antirol bar mounts, and revalved Bilsteins. After lots of investigation into the correct settings I have actually ended up with something like a tarmac rally bump/rebound settings which are a bit stiffer than the sport settings but not quite as firm as the old RSR settings.

The brakes have also been upgraded to carrera fronts with the under A arm cooling kit sourced from Pelican parts. It amazing how much these few modifications added up to ££££, those tyre better be worth in terms of reduced lap times!

John

how did you get the picture to display in the post?

glad you liked it!

Bruce

It's a great pic mate, top notch photography, right place at the right time with the right camera, love that lifted wheel [;)]

Don't use HTML to link to your pics - look along the tools in the top of the posting window and there is a little image icon on the top right, click it and just paste the url/http link from photobucket into it, the pic should then display before you click the OK button.

More pics like that welcome anytime [8D]

Gets my vote for best picture of 06 so far.

Don't worry about lifting the front inside wheel, its unavoidable unless you really stiffen the rear end. Your new setup will probably still do that. You should worry about the amount of roll though. I think your new setup will be nice - its a fast road set-up, similar to what I had for 3 years - but if you get really into track days you will want bigger torsion bars - ask me how I know [;)]. Unfortunately you don't have any more incremental steps, except maybe bigger adjustable sways. Let us know how you enjoy, it will be much better than before. Maybe good enough!

That corner also extaordinarily bumpy!! I can hear the engine spin up over the bumps there as well as wheel lifting exercise on both inner wheels as seen by Jim Gaisford -shame I've got a print and not on disc!!

Nice one John!!
