111 point check at OPC about £200, depending on OPC. There is some scope for negotiation if you are going to add warranty as well.
 
I have had my Cayman 2.7 for 4 years and 60K miles. I had a 996TT and a 993TT before. Sure the turbo's were much much quicker. But the cayman is the better drive. Cracking car.

I've had my 2.7 for 5 years and 50k miles (from new) and I agree with every word! [;)]
 
Cheers sniper - any regrets on the 2.7 option? It just seems to me if we are going to commit we may as well dive in as opposed to dipping the toe in the water,That said I have got to stop 'investigating', surley must have LSD on account of the fact that I have to get away from the .... who?. Sod the law I'm gonna drive like a............? middle aged man [:'(]. There is no chance that I am going to just pose around town [:D], Ah to hell with it buy the best I can afford and enjoy I'll be a long time dead :ROFLMAO:
 
The problem with most of the bigger engined Porsches these days is that they are simply TOO fast, at least for road use. Lay into a 997 turbo for 10 consecutive seconds and you will be on chatting terms with the local magistrate. Because the 2.7 ISN'T that fast, you do get a chance to actually drive the thing with some gusto but without pulling jet fighter speeds. In traffic clogged, speed camera obsessed Britain, I would argue that this allows more fun and less frustration. Isn't that what enjoyable driving is really about? I borrowed a Cayman R for a morning recently, and yes it is the fast and edgy sports car everyone says it is, but I found I was forever having to get out of the throttle for fear of coming face to face with a speed camera van at "good morning Judge" pace! I was genuinely happy to get back in my 2.7. Track days? a different story perhaps, but for road use the basic 5 speed 2.7 Cayman is sublime. Try one. John H (other opinions are available! [:D])
 
But many, like me, wouldn't change their Cayman S for a 2.7 or a 911! As for the requirement of an LSD, yes I'd like one but not available from Porsche but the fact is that the Cayman S is such an accomplished handling car that while it would be an advantage we can still out corner just about everything out there but if I was to get a Gen2 I'd have the LSD.
 
Hi John, Took on board your comments and did a quick trawl of the usual sales spots, impressed with how well they stand up to similar reg and specked cars value wise, my best responce to the speed issue is summed up thus :- my lovely other half (apparently everyones snooping on what,where and how you say anything nowadays!) received a £60 fine and 3 points on her otherwise clean license last week [:mad:] (34 in a 30!!!) and I can see why, every time I jump into her 1.4 MG I have to rev the b**locks off it to get up a hill!, in 3 1/2 years of owning my S6 with 340 bhp at my right foot I've just never felt the neccesity to abuse it, I really belive I have averaged a slower pace than ever [&o] If I'd bought it in my 30's this message would have come via a seance [:D]. Any decernable difference in engine note?. If they sound the same ,cost the same and insurance isn't an issue then I think it's the S for me - but I am still listening thanks for input
 
Ian, I know exactly what you mean about the S6. With a lot of these very powerful Mercs and Audis it is quite relaxing to just cruise, knowing you have the firepower under your foot but not using it. It fits the character of the car. I'm not sure this works on something like a Cayman though, cos the whole feel of the car is about being light, snappy and precise ... a world away from any Audi I've ever driven. The Cayman is at its best on a smooth, visually-open twisty road, where you can get a bit of a flow going, it feels the way older Porsches used to feel which was precision and delicacy over power. Some of the bigger Porsches are chasing that uber-saloon market, and have lost some of the vintage Porsche feel as a result. That doesn't make them bad cars, they are just a tad less Porsche-like. I like the basic Cayman cos it feels like a Porsche used to. John H [;)]
 
Hi John, that 30 year old I mentioned is grinning like a loon! :ROFLMAO:. Love your description of the way to enjoy a Cayman. The downside of living in Scarborough is we are kind of cut off, the best bit?. No speed cameras in North Yorkshire and smooth(ish) 'visually open twisty open roads' ( I can't stop saying this in my best Homer impersonation!!!). Whole reason for buying the Cayman. So miss going out for a drive for............nothing, just the sheer fun of going for a drive!!. If Aberdeen comes off perhaps I'll come and visit! Anyway cheers for the feedback it's all really useful.
