Getting back into the fold with a slightly different perspective ,

Hiya,,,
Had the Clk 55 droptop for three years but has never stopped the itch for another
944,,also a 968 in Amaranth purple could be possible,,,
Greater London ulez was a problem as mum has Alzheimer’s and Vascular dementia (diagnosis at 71) ,now we have carers going 3x a day as her condition worsens but has freed me up a bit more now,,
After owning the 55 and our dd which is a 2015 Golf R,,,,I accept that unless I go on the M11 I can rarely put the power fully down local or on the M2 or M25, Inner London etc, apart from quick dashes from camera to camera, lol
So I have been looking at earlier restored models as well as S2 and Turbos,,
Performance won’t be paramount in the new car and a turbo would need to unfettered as I don’t have the mechanical knowledge to keep on top of a tuned turbo and would not use the power 80% of the time anyway,,
I love pascha and tartan interiors,,teledials and Fuchs but an s2 with a tartan interior in Guards R ,,
I be getting ready to sell/trade the 55 convertible in spring if not before,,
Another 944 in the future and look forward to the chase,,my last s2 is now in New Zealand,,,,membership once purchased cos I love those badges lol,,
Thanks for reading,,,,jasonp

Properly done a mildly tuned turbo is no different maintenance wise. The cars were probably de-tuned for production by Porsche. Unless someone is selling one on here or Tipec, finding a really good turbo isn't going to be easy though. Unless Pete (PSH) can be persuaded to part with his.The S2 has always played 2nd fiddle to the turbo and 968 in my eyes, I'd look at a few 968's if I was you.

How do you get on with the Golf R? I want to reduce our numbers, and am thinking about selling the Fiesta ST and A4 quattro estate for a Golf R or RS3.

I would agree with Paul, don't be afraid of a tuned Turbo, one that keeps it's stock (or close to it) displacement etc, they can be just as reliable if not more so than a standard turbo if done right, mainly as they would have had most of the wearable items replaced during their ownership. I would steer away from big strokers or those that have an S2 block or N/A head though...I would say that if you're going to have trouble with a modified turbo, it would be one of those as you don't really know what's been done.

I will say that if you buy a 951, especially one that's been breathed on, you won't have a need to by any other performance car.

As for being persuaded to sell mine, Paul... no comment...:)

Blade,,,,we had the mk5 R32 for years and as good as that was ,,,this R seems another class altogether ,,,haldex and electric lsd make it like a Docklands light rail way train on the road,,,,4 modes,,eco, normal, individual, and race,,,
,hit race and the whole car seems to change,,throttle response, exhaust,,gearbox is much shorter throw then the R32 and the better for it,,
,I haven’t used launch control for fear of getting it wrong and burning the clutch out and I’m not a very good driver so probably would balls it up,,,
300bhp in a Golf and it don’t stop pulling so quickly,,,
If you want to take ours for a spin then I’m only in Woodford Green,,,,,had haldex oil changed the other day and frog spawn cleaned off around filter,,,filter like new,
It’s up with the best cars I have owned in nearly 40yrs blade/P,,,

Thanks Peter and Blade,,,,I assumed a turbo with the upgrades would need more upkeep and only runs on certain juice?etc,
There was a white stock turbo on e bay recently,(missus not fond of white but she will have to live with it lol if the eventual car is white),,,,looked a lovely car with all the right work done,,
An immaculat 2.7 Ventiler up north but similar money for a S2 or possibly even a turbo,,I love the shape and that I know them well and the simplicity compared to the 55 and the Golf is something I like also,,,,
I will choose very carefully this time for a keeper and if I knew circumstances would have changed so quickly I would never have sold my last s2,,,,
Thanks for the input blade and Peter ,,,I’m open minded at the moment and preparing for the " chase” which I always enjoy,,more then the catch sometimes,,,

There has been a Adventurine green 968 for sale with a pacha interior and air con recently

just had search and it seems to have gone, I knew the previous owner and it was well looked after

I think the Ventiler is a 2.5 16v, probably more to go wrong than they're worth. Personally I wouldn't want a turbo for city use, stop start traffic doesn't play to it's strengths. I suppose you could always stick a turbo badge on an S2 :ROFLMAO:. I reckon you're probably looking at £10-15k for a good S2, and £15-20k for a good 968/Turbo. I know they're not every ones cup of tea but same money, I'd be thinking Audi TTS/TT-RS.

What’s the budget
mine gets very little use these days
Not decided as it’s dependant on the 55 going and for how much,,,, single garage so space is another factor,,,,,specialist who we got the R from was a passenger in the clk and asked me to give him first refusal ( it’s immaculate ),,,,
thanks for the interest but black wouldn’t be for me,,

Black wouldn't be my first choice either, but I'd make an exception for this car. Read his 36 page restoration thread on Tipec.
