Getting to the maximum speed of my C4S- any ideas?

I have just returned from another trip to Germany- the Frankfurt Motor Show to be precise. I have been up and down various autobahns and getting to 180-odd mph isn't easy. With respect, I am NOT looking for advice about where to go in Germany (or anywhere else) in order to reach Vmax. What I do want to know is whether any members know of safe, organised (or not) places/events to do so.

I have done some driver training at Bruntingthorpe, which I recall had a rather large runway. Can one hire it for half a day. Etc, etc.

I got 178 mph indicated (propbaly about 170 mph actual) out of my 996 C4S and am looking to improve on that, in case anyone needs to know!

Thanks,

Derek

Don't think many cars reach their maximum speed at Bruntingthorp. When travelling at 180mph+ you run out of track very quickly. Clear Autobahns in Germany offer far more chance of V-Max. I easily and comfortably managed 165mph on 5th June, could have gone quicker but only collected car (997 GT3 RS) from the factory the previous day! This was on the run from Stuttgart up to Spa-Francorchamps.
We know of at least two 997 GT3's that have shown 200+ on the speedo in Germany. Probably true speed more like 195mph but quick enough for most mere mortals.

To really Vmax you need to be running on a proper deresticted autobahn, the A1 is the main one over there as you need at least 3 miles and brunters is then just too short !

OK, so, does anyone own a private 6 mile long test track based in the UK (preferably in the South[;)]) or do I have to go back to Germany again?!

Out of interest, if anybody on here had... ummm... maybe thought about a V-Max run in the UK... ummm... theoretically, what speed would they have reached (allegedly) and where?

I'd probably have attempted it on the M49 (Second Severn Crossing to Avonmouth) and got to around an indicated 165leptons in a 997 Carrera S.

I might also consider having a go on the M49 (old Severn Bridge towards M4 / M5 interchange) in a Boxster S. Probably would have topped out at 162leptons on the speedo if I had tried

[]

the M45 looks like it might be good for 172leptons on a dry day[:D]but you would prob need to leave the M1 junct for M45 at nearly 100leptons to have the run up to get to that speed and noone would be daft enough to do that[:D][:D][:D]

Please folks, remember that this is a public forum and others can see what you are proposing ostensibly under the 'Porsche Club GB' banner. Whilst the acheivement of speed is fun and interesting, following these recomendations for driving at such high speeds on UK roads could result in a visit to one or more of Her Majesty's less salubrious establishments as well as a substantial ban [:(].

I know, I know, I am a boring lawyer, but consider the risks of danger to other road users, of a serious accident which could cause serious injury or death to the driver or [innocent] others.

Of course, these posts might be tongue in cheeek, in which case I shall sign off now ...[8|]

Guys, I've slightly edited your posts just to clarify that all comments are made tongue in cheek [;)]

I'm sure that no one here would ever break the law set by this fair land....[]

I did the V-max event at Brunters in my 996 and managed 174 leptons...
My 997 has since beaten that at another private test track.....

[:-] Oh No! how will the Turbo keep up.. I 'm hoping it won't ruin the collection of the new car and leave you feeling disappointed..

I still like the fact that in Top Gear JC still called the GT3RS a Beetle..:ROFLMAO:

I think I must own a share in the A55 North Wales trunk road with all the tax I seem to have paid. Problem is most of the North wales constabulary seem to sit drinking coffe and eating bacon sandwiches on it! lol. If you v max it let me know as we are off to Nurburgh 2008.

I know that stretch well - the one and only place I've been caught speeding (in fact the only time I've ever sped[:D][;)]), about 15 years ago on my way to catch the ferry to Dublin. I told the officer I was in danger of missing the ferry, but he was well prepared for that old chestnut and knew the ferry times!

Hilarious![:D][;)]

Last Saturday I got followed with flashing lights and sirens by one of Richard Brunstroms fine men for about 700yards. He started off by nearly trying to drive up my exhaust pipe, then put his flashing lights on which I duely ignored! He then put his sirens on which again I duely ignored and as he tried to over take I turned left into my drive which really annoyed him as he had to do a u turn ! He blocked the entrance to my drive and come running up the drive with his mate.
I quietly parked my car next to my TT and opened the door to a 1925 Austin 7, (numbered 7 for 7 hp)!

He then ranted on at me for doing 25 mph in a 60 limit and threatened to impound the car! I just started laughing which really infuriated him even more especially as I was dressed as a clown! Fortunately I was driving in trainers and not the two foot shoes! Trying to explain that was the maximum safe speed of the car didn't seem to wash!

Community policing eh! Think he must have been bullied asa child![8|]

If there wasn't a blue minimum speed sign (anyone ever seen one?) then you can go as slow as you want...

Subject to the requirement that a driver must drive with reasonable consideration for other road users...

What about driving at no more than 4 mph following a man with a red flag. That should keep a certain newtish Mayor, all environmentalists and a well known Chief Constable very very happy [:D].
