Giving up ?

I chipped ours (with a highly acclaimed Blitz Chip ~ which I understand provided the basis for the current ProMax chip) approx 1 month after I got it. Too soon after I got it to allow any meaningful comparison of economy.

This map takes advantage of 97/98 RON fuel, but offers nothing more than the std map on 95RON. I believe other remaps of the S2 are similar (?)

No particular increase in the mid-range, but the step in power around 4200rpm was certainly smoothed, and the top end felt more urgent. I believe the rev limit was raised too, but I never used the extra range - my 4rse-dyno feeling no advantage in taking the car much over 6k rpm. Throttle response felt a little keener too.

For what it cost me - I thought it money very well spent.
 
.... so, chipped economy pretty much the same as my non-chipped economy.

Interesting. Where did you get the Blitz chip cheaply?
