Good Deal?

I have been toying with the idea of switching to a cab and OPC Colchester have an interesting car.

I have a 997 C2 (Oct 04) which I paid £45k for in April (from OPC Cambridge) which has 39k miles, Sport Chrono, Sports heated seats, PASM, 19" sport design wheels, dimming mirrors, PSE, Homelink, Xenons, Multi Function Steering wheel, Navigation and Telephone module, rear wiper and CD changer), Warranty til April 09

I was looking at their 05 997 Seal Grey C2 Cab with 26k miles, lower spec for £44k

They are offering me to put in £12k to change car. This means they are offering £32 for my car.

What do people think about this? (Have I really lost £13k in 8 months?), Could I sell my car more privately and buy a cab cheaper privately elsewhere?
Or should I just sit tight and drive my car for another year as I've just taken the depreciation hit already and sell next year instead?
Suggestions gratefully received!

Just to put things into perspective. A 2005 high spec 11,000mile 2S cab with full history etc. was sold at blackbush auctions yesterday for £37k. Personally I would keep my 12k firmly in my pocket.

Well Paragon have a decent spec C2S up for £38k [link=http://www.paragon.gb.com/sales/vehicle-details.asp?ID=701407]http://www.paragon.gb.com/sales/vehicle-details.asp?ID=701407[/link] , and Cridfords have what looks like a bargain 2005 model 911 (997) 3.6 Carrera 2 Coupe, finished in black and trimmed with full black leather, equipped with PCM satellite navigation with phone module, 19" sport design alloys, sport chrono package, Xenon lights, leather sports seats, rear park assist, coloured wheel centres, CD changer, automatic climate control and only 18,000 miles for £32995, so i'd imagine trade value of yours is somewhere in the 28-30k range. Seems OPC are trying their best for a sale, but bear in mind there is supposed to be extra incentive from Porsche GB to keep sales moving (maybe exclusive to new car orders) its worth pushing for a better deal. Its unlikely the OPC will put your car up for sale, they have plenty of stock at present - you may be able to use this argument to your benefit since they are looking to reduce stock levels ! I'm not sure there is a that big a difference in the cars though - bear in mind there is a £7-9k mark up over trade on their used car and you're effectively paying over £10k to buy a car worth about 5-6k more than yours, and offers no more performance and is unlikely to have any mechanical improvements given the marginal difference in ages.

I find that price for C2S cab at auction quite astonishing! I wish I had waited 8 months [&o] I'm basically just looking for a cabriolet version of what I already have, and to pay £12k extra for the privilege is too much isn't it? BlackBoxsa, I completely agree that I would be paying over the odds to go to a cab when the difference should really be around 7k.

£44K for a C2 Cab, that age and mileage is too much. Have a look at this lovely car at Stirlings, newer, very low mileage, awesome spec C2S cab for £49,995.00 [link=http://www.stirlings.co.uk/show%20room%20car%201/index.html]http://www.stirlings.co.uk/show%20room%20car%201/index.html[/link]

Yes Jamie, very nice....and I wonder how much Stirlings paid for that?!! (and what their margin is)

A neighbour bought his friends C2 Tip Dec 04 18K miles FPSH for the trade in offer price of £35k (New Cost circa £75k) Unfortunately the deal was done and dusted late September before the world economies went into full blown melt down! So your offer seems fair but they are getting you back with a very expensive Cabrio

Not worth a dime over £40k in this climate I am afraid to say []

you have answered your own question!!i didnt expect you to be offered more than 30k tbh so 32 is fair in current climate.as for the cab-that too is prob overpriced, but there is no question that you have taken the biggest hit,and selling yours within the first yr is always going to be expensive!

A good friend of mine has been offered by a car dealer personal friend of his a 2006 997 C2 Tip Cab 9k miles from new for just over trade money of £42k! which makes the OPC's car offered to you look like it was priced well and truly pre crash days [8D] The one OPC's don't seem to have heard of when in sales mode [:D]

I believe he is making a loss on that as the market has moved against him since he bought it a few months ago.

Just wanted to update you on 2 more potential cabs I've found at OPC Sutton Coldfield. They have a Black 05 C4 Cab with 29k on the clock, and a GT Silver 06 C2S Cab with 19k on the clock. After a few discussions they have offered to take my car plus 11k to buy the C4 Cab and £13k for the C2S Cab. My car is a 997 C2 (Oct 04) 39k miles, Sport Chrono, Sports heated seats, PASM, 19" sport design wheels, dimming mirrors, PSE, Homelink, Xenons, Multi Function Steering wheel, Navigation and Telephone module, rear wiper and CD changer), Warranty til April 09 The GT Silver one has Cocoa leather interior..is this less desirable?..but a better spec. I'm in 2 minds as to what to do...buy now or wait and buy another in Q1 09 as my warranty isn't up til April..... Would I be offered even less P/X if I wait?.....questions questions

Would I be offered even less P/X if I wait?..... what do YOU think!!!!!????? about 1k less per month i should think but so should the price of the car youre after-and if its more expensive then they should drop more.however bearing in mind opc add about 8-10k on cars they buy and sell(approx)that means that your car is prob worth only 4k less than the cars you are buying.to pay 12 k more then seems madness, but ,hey whose sane on this forum??[:D]

Yes, I may be slightly mad I know but in April I will be paying around £2,200 for warranty renewal and a 40k service plus sparks. I'm thinking to change now to get a another which won't need a service for a while and has a new warranty. Selling mine privately will get around £30, although 'S's are now appearing for close to this. Decent cabs are still atleast £38 so £11k to change then doesn't seem so bad does it. The differential is way above £4k. ....I also hope for all our sakes that 997's won't continue to drop by £1k a month in value!...you're painting a very pessimistic picture [:(]

It would be better to hang on and change at the end of the first quarter to get a better deal. Dealers targets are set on quarters, change towards the end of the 1st. The market is still very unsettled. Just an idea.

I've just bought a GT silver C2s with Cocoa interior and silver belts, I think its a great color combo

you're painting a very pessimistic picture
better than saying "2009 will be fine"" and then being fed up when prices continue to tumble!!however the gt silver does sound lovely and i think cocoa interior will look great .you only live once so if you want to do it just DO dont try and calculate your way round it just treat yourself[:D]

I agree, Bought mine last month, thought it was a good deal so don't look at the prices now, hence it doesn't bother me if their still tumbling. Happy with what I have. if you miss it you will only kick yourself.
