Got a 997tt build date for May '08!

Hi all, this is my first post as you can see, just saying hello to everyone.

I put a deposit down on a new 997 turbo about 4 months ago, but as delivery was so far away then, as just 5 months away now I thought I'd introduce myself!

Plans are to spec the car with Tiptronic, Cobalt blue, Black leather, Sports Chrono, Adaptive sports seats, body coloured skirts + splitters....

Am really hoping for a sports exhaust to be released by the time my spec needs to be given, unfortunately looks like the PDK gearbox with dual clutch is still far from being released in the turbo so will have to stick with the normal tiptronic........

It's not my first porsche, had a 968 about 5 yrs ago, unfortunately as a victim of lift off oversteer (my first RWD car) it met it's demise with a lamp post at a high speed! Been through an e36 m3, yamaha R6, and currently have a 2003 Mercedes e55 amg (for sale by the way!) so going for this is quite a jump as you can see, and is like nothing i've EVER driven before!

Will keep the post updated as i get more info, and will post some pics up from the Porsche Driving day I get to do in a couple of months in the turbo!

Well done, you will not regret the decision, nothing comes close to these cars for the money. How do you have the will power to wait until May?

well since i put the deposit down about 3-4 months ago, a 9-10 month wait seemed so far away, it just hasnt seemed within reach yet...

I'm sure come closer to march, when it's just 2 months away, I'll start to get impatient!! Just now it all seems so far away so it's no problem!

Gives me plenty of time to scour the forums for info about future changes, specs, mods, etc and daydream about the car!

thanks garyw, read that thread earlier in detail :)

provides a lot of useful info, should hopefully be updating this post on a regular basis with simular info! Will hopefully give a more updated view with MY08 info, with any updated options included.......

Unfortunately will be a long wait till final pictures of the car!

There's a great thread on Rennteam (which i also have seen many of your posts on Alex L) which has lots of cobalt pictures - although I dont know if it's allowed to link to other forum threads, probably not.......

The excitement which wasnt there a few months ago, is getting more and more as may approaches! I have a feeling that the months of march, april and whatever i need to wait in may will be torture! Especially once i've been on the driving day and had a proper taste...

Also Alex L I assume you've been on the said driving day yourself? what can I expect? Do they really let you take the cars to the limit?

Thanks Garyw, and thanks Alex L for the informative write up!

Certainly looking forward to it - only to decide now whether to get it booked for a couple of months away in the wet weather, or try and aim for a dry summer day closer to may/june or later?

Am thinking that as the car will be slightly 'hairier' in wet weather, and as it always rains here might be more use to go in wet weather, BUT at the same time, I think of how much fun it would be on a nice warm summers day!

Hello Vinnie,
Ive got a Turbo ordered for April delivery, so im in the same position of the extended wait, but im 100% sure the car is worth it.I rang the other day about the driving day at Millbrook, and asked for a May slot, as i thought i could put into practice what i will learn, because i will have the car by then. The lady told me to ring nearer the time to arrange that, as they dont have any dates for that far ahead.I think the day would be far more enjoyable if there is a chance of some fairer weather.Regards, SIMON. i

I'd suggest if you want to go for the blatt in the car and see what it can really do then go in the summer, however if you want to learn about the car and how to look after yourself in it then I'd go in the wetter times.

Also bear in mind that once the Silverstone product is finished and the tracks are already completed, you won't actually be going to Millbrook.
Whether thats good or bad I don't yet know..

As said to me recently;
Millbrook is more about showing off the car than driver development, MIRA is alot more about the driver development.. which way Silverstone goes is yet to be found out.

Nice one on the link Gary [:)]

I personally chose to do the experience day as soon as I possibly could as then I had time to evaluate all car options. You don't want to be changing option specs last minute - or your build date will get pushed back each time to the rear of the queue.

Luckily though I did get a perfect weather day. Those wide tyres just gripped gripped and gripped until your eyes started hurting.

That included monthly magazine alone is worth the membership fee!

I'm gonna get onto the membership thing straight away, no worries there!

I think i'll enjoy the driving day more if I go when the weather is nicer so will wait a while to get it done, also dont wanna forget everything i've learnt by the time i get my car cos I dont do much spirited driving in the e55 other than in straight lines, so would all be wasted if i leave it too long........

Oh, before i foget also, can you take anyone with you on the day as an observer?

Not for observing I don't think, especially as being thrown around in the cramped back of a Turbo for a few hours would not be my idea of fun.

You can have a guest participate for £550 along with you though.

I'm sure you lot probably have something like this anyway at times, but would be great to meet up on a nice summers day, seems to have a lot of new turbo's either already here (lucky barstools!) or on the way soon!

Would love to see a nice line up of 997 tt's in all colours etc, and would make a nice day out!

Beavercraig, no need to state the obvious, counting the minutes!

I am still to spec my car, which i've not been asked to come and do yet - to be honest, since the deposit was taken, haven't really heard much from the dealer ( leicester porsche ) so dont know my exact date - but i can guarantee that once I know the date, i'll be counting down too!

All I was told was the production month. I didn't get allocated an exact date until the 1st of that month.

Its already in the planning [;)], quite a few events and drives planned for this year, last year was sadly a bit of a wash out [:(]

It was actualy spoken in December about a 997TT get together, just awaiting a few more deliveries and some decent weather worth getting the car dirty for...
