GT3 or a Gen2 997CS??

Welcome the communities thoughts on the following dilemma...

I am really enjoying my 05 C2S but really want to explore the next level. Options are as follows:

1. Source a 997 GT3
2. Look at finding an appropriate Gen2 C2S (ex demo/intro car)

Personnally I am leaning towards a GT3, but question that I could use as a daily driver?

Head? - 997GT3 Heart? - 997GT3 It really is a very clever package. Feels very special, but surprisingly refined and day-to-day useable. Only drawback might be the absence of rear seats, should you need them, and even they could, conceivably, be retro-fitted.
 
with pasm susensiont he gt3 is very useable evryday - its also a proven engine design with little or no issues. Buy a 997 gen 2 and you'll always think whether you should have bought the gt3, buy the gt3 and be happy :D
 
hi Ive no experience of the gt3 however it reads very well, but i do know about the gen2 carrera s!!! If you want a car you can pootle around the city in doing 30 mph then ring its neck on the way home buy the gen 2 pdk!! Its the most complete packaged car ive EVER driven. It does everything you'd want from a car(and some!!) mottle
 
Thanks for the feedback guys. It is definately heart. The GT3 is definately getting the votes for me and I do agree with Black80XSA, the Gen 2 would be great but it would leave the "what if" question. No immediate rush just starting to see what is available. Will see what GT3 options are out there and report back.
 
Well putting my anorak on and looking at the on-paper specs (and I do often!) there is very little to separate them. GT3 up on power (at higher RPM though so less accessable) but has less torque. There is a gnat's whisker to separate them on the accellaration times - certainly not enough for you to notice through the seat of your pants. So is the GT3 really worth the extra premium and lack of frills unless you are going to track the car and track it hard? Depends how special it feels I guess. But then I the GT3 will hold its value better so could actually be the hearts and the heads choice! Nice dilemma to have though!!
 
Faz, it would have to serve as a daily driver also. Although I don't have a massive journey to work everyday, 11 miles total. As for the depreciation factor. I do think the GT3 would be the wiser option.
 
Couple of thoughts. You can't compare the two on paper. You have to drive them to appreciate the differences and which might suit. Providing you don't go for a compromised spec, the 997 GT3 is everyday useable. It's probably a bit wasted for commuting around town, but a decent drive to/from work would be perfect. BTW, the Corsas are better than the Cups for winter road use.
 
I agree with Oliver, for me, even if the GT3 was slower in every way I'd still rather have it as it's just 'Alive' and begs to be driven (which is what I want), whearas the Carrera is more of a GT car (which is what I had). I'm stating the obvious, but the two cars have 2 very different raison d'etres, and as such were built optimally for their different environments. The Carrera is perfectly suited to road driving and has bags of performance available on tap. If you chose the GT3 it would be compromised on the road. So it depends what kind of daily driving you're going to have. Town or country? The GT3 would be totally wasted in town driving and a pain as it sits so low, the ride is hard and it's noisy - you can't as easily just sit back and take it easy if you're not in the mood. Either way you have to go for a test drive. This is not one of those decisions that can be made for you on a forum, because the cars are just so different (for better or worse depending on your useage)
 
Again guys, thanks for the input. I am (and always have) been leaning towards the GT3 due to it's nature, why it was built, etc. The every day driving would be compromised, but I'm prepared to accept that. Even longer journey's ;-) At the end of the day I am looking forward to test drives...

The Gen2 is a great car ( I have driven various types at the test facility), but if you are coming out of a 997 it is (IMO) a little too similar, I made this mistake with the 996 series & went from series 1-2 & it was just more of the same. My advice would be to go for a complete change .. alla the GT3's much more hardcore interactive package, or change car brands & come back to gen2 later... best of luck with choices.

Mad altrenative - spend about £3.5k -£4k Get a Revo Remap, Miltech Exhaust (if you already have a sports exhaust they can (fit the other bits and leave the sports Box bit) - This buys you another 50-60bhp ie approx 415hp. same power as the GT3 but shorter gearing[8|]. Will make a complete monster on the road. You can also get uprated break pads that cope with the extra power:rolleyes: Your same old car has just become a real Q car.................. Am investigating doing this to mine, as I have the powerkit already this get you up to 440hp or put another way 309 bhp/tonne :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I hear what you are says OKT, but why take the powerkit further & add aftermarket modifications??? You can get the GT3 (or Turbo or GT2!) off the shelf & this car has a proven official Porsche pedigree for best dynamics & a re-sale value that makes the modified route look rather worrying! The GT3 is not just about extra power it is a cohesive characterful whole! In order to match it you would have to completely change the engine to a new one, along with the induction system & exhaust! Change the suspension & PASM system, add an LSD, change the brakes, gearbox & aerodynamics! Strip weight out the car including fitting high strength aluminium in key areas. Add Michelin cup tyres. Fine tune & hone the package to the same level as Porsches motor sport department spending ££££££££!
