GUESS THE TRACK!!!

Mat, sounds right, dont remember the wheels though.

Drive cadwell is superb, turn off the A1 at Colsterworth, then 1hrs worth of twisty A and B roads, superb early in the am. I have been on a PCGB day there years ago, again on the short circuit, not worth it. But agree that a full circuit, open pit lane day when dry is great fun. Having a better balance of cars types helps. As it is pretty hard to let people past even if you are trying.

Plenty of novices who get very scared of Cadwell (I think I will when I venture out in my 911 eventually), hence they drive very very slowly. And its a long way from Park to Barn corner, with nowhere to over take on track days.

Testing of course you can have people get past on the inside of chris curve, inside of mansfield, and inside to the mountain.

There is a very interesting triple apex curve followed by a chicane, followed by a downhill (sometimes very aquaplany) straight, into a tight left-hander that is the crux of the straight that follows.

Hmmm [&:] It's actually two corners that is, Chris! The first right-hander is called 'Park' (at the end of Park Straight), one apex (clipping point) there, then as you exit Park it leads into the next corner; the next corner is called Chris Curve, Chris (LOL), there are three kerbs on the inside of Chris Curve (is that what you meant by 'three apexes'?) and some people hug all three, but that's not really necessary and the smoothest/best line is to clip the middle one. Chris Curve leads into the Gooseneck (right-left... two apexes). [8|]

This was fun there a couple of years ago! Going into 'Hall Bends' here:

Supercharged Atom 300 - 150mph on the start/finish straight approaching Coppice, and on Park straight! LOL

Thanks Tim,

You know I am hopeless with names --- I was just re-living it in my head [;)]

Yes it was "diving" through the gooseneck and braking downhill into Mansfield where I was aquaplaning --- amongst others !

I was also overtaken by an Elise who went straight on at the hairpin !!

There is an escape road, but how does one recover from that ? Where does the escape road come out ?

I think the escape road takes all the way back to the paddock, So its lap over, or turn around and face the traffic [:-]

Believe it or not, they have done quite a lot to improve run-off at Cadwell, they moved trees back in halls bends (The right, left, right, left before the hairpin), and moved the armco back at Barn (last corner before main straight)

Well it's not really an escape road Chris, although I suppose it could double as one in an emergency. It's actually a service road, it is only 45m long before it rejoins the track on Park straight, and it has a sharp 90° right-hand bend 25m along it. I've never had to use it as an escape road but I would think you would stand more chance of getting round 'Mansfield' than the sharp right in the service road if you were carrying too much speed in the wet.

In fact here it is on Google Maps: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&s...05971,-0.06404&spn=0.001673,0.003449&t=k&z=18

Some years ago I drove my 1st ever trackday at Cadwell ( 1st time ever on track) in the wet [] & in my 2.4S with badly set up suspension & bald rear tyres !! Almost put me off trackdays for life [;)][:D] A brand new Maserati stuffed it into the Armco on the main straight after aquaplaning off to the right .... track was then closed for an hour to let the water drain away.

Great little circuit though. Must go again some time, but this time in the dry & with a sorted car

Chris, I think the track takes you back to the paddock, and is largely used for recovery vehicles or marshal access. Although I think there is a track that goes down to Barn (next corner), I'm sure you cant get back on the circuit!!

Will have given the driver a chance to calm down anyway [:D]

I was --- so where could he go ? He was stuck in the corner off the track ?

It did look different at track level !

I'm confused now, there isn't an escape road at the 'hairpin'! [&:]

Is there not? I always thought that where the hairpin turns right, if you turn left it takes you off the circuit? Never been up there myself so not 100% sure? I guess its not so much as escape road as an access point.

Maybe it just looks that way on the pics.

...a ''lover's lane'' perhaps? The car Chris and I saw certainly had steamed up windows! Perhaps he war checking his nuts?[:D]
