Happy Xmas - whats in your stocking?

Hi all,

I know I dont have a 944T any more but I still like to lurk in this forum and add my views, comments and observations now and again so I just thought I`d like to say........................................

Happy Xmas to all and a safe and prosperous New Year [:)]

Also, to add a festive note: Whats in your stocking?............................

Sad I know but I went through my tool box and I`ve listed out and asked for a load of Halfords professional spanners/ratchets etc etc to replace and enhance what I have and whats missing (my son and his mates know nothing about the missing items of course []) and a couple of bits and bobs that are always handy to have.

Perhaps understandably the wife thinks I`m a sad g*t (you all may agree [8|]) but as far as I`m concerned why not get what you want instead of novelty stuff you`ll never get benefit from.

I've taken a similar approach to you this year with the Xmas stuff.

So far the stockings include a good door for the MGB (the last door didn't fit for the love of money (it was poorly reskinned years ago). Assuming that goes well, it'll also be getting a Moto Lita steering wheel boss, and a general service before MOT time.

As for the Porker, a new rad is on the list.

Happy Xmas to you Paul and the rest of the group.
I've already got my pressie Halfords Pro 150 piece set as my missing /damaged/worn out count on several sets was getting too high!
Mike

Happy Christmas to one and all!

I've asked for some mats for the Beetle!

Just treated myself to a set of Halfords Pro Torx sockets/drives...[;)]

[:D][:D][:D][:D] Excellent-- Keep `em coming, I`m going to show the missus this thread......she will not believe it [8D]

Merry Christmas all!

I have no idea what I am getting, apart from telling my Wife to keep it light so that I can get back into Flying in the new year.

I have however, bought her 5 laps of Bruntingthorpe in an Aston Martin DB9! As well as being her dream car, it was the closest on the list to the layout of the 944, so I thought that some expert tuition on driving a powerful front engined, RWD car would help her appreciate the 944 a little more....well that's the plan anyway!

Merry Chrimble all!

I don't think I've got anything car related coming this year, but to be honest I'll be quite happy just having 4 days off. I have asked for a cheap and basic electric guitar though (mid life crisis starting I think) but we'll see if Santa is feeling charitable [:D]

"Starting" Peter???!!!!

Who are you trying to kid?![8|][:D][:D][:D]

Peter, you'll start cheap and then you'll end up with 3 or 4 guitars, a couple of amps, some effects pedals.....[:)]

I recommend getting on Youtube and looking up The Next Level Guitar, they do some brilliant, fun lessons for beginners and will have you playing stuff in no time.

Also there are various Fret websites where you can search on songs and find the tabs that people have written for them

Thanks Jeremy, that's much appreciated, I'll definately have a look at those lessons. I'm sure you're right about ending up with a collection, I just want to start simply to make sure it's not a passing fad for me, I don't get much spare time so I'm not sure how it will fit in yet.

No Problem Peter, I go through phases of playing like mad and then will not touch them for a month or so.
I can't play a whole song yet, but I know the best bits from a wide range!

I find 10 minutes a day keeps your fingers strong and your muscle-memory on where the strings and frets are. I often do it after the wife goes to bed (not plugged in or on headphones) or when I have the house to myself (very loud!)

My 6 year-old son has a quarter sized Fender Stratocaster copy and an Electronic drum kit, so when the girls are out we have 'go crazy' time! He does a good impression of Angus....[:D]

I shall receive zilch as we spend the money on pressies for the kids and dont really do adult pressies. This is of course a bit of a shame as I have my eye on exactly the same socket / tool set as Mike. A bargain at the current alledged half price, I am truly envious.

On the plus side , my parents have bought the kids a Wii with Wii fit so that should provide us all with a bit of xmas cheer ( especially after a few). Saldy the missus is a bit too aware for me to catch her on the Wii Fit , video her on the mobile and post it on the web but I'll do my very best [:D]

Happy Crimbo to all.............. M.a.s

If you want some adult fun on the Wii (especially after a few) get Ravin' Rabids, great party games with complete loss of all dignity.....I particularly like the snow-gnu-ing

Thanks , if the Wii ever arrives ! ( tracking says in depot since 18th).

Just read the online reviews seems Rabbids 1 is the one to have not Rabbids 2, so I may well buy that.

A couple of out-of-print books by LJK Setright. In my humble opinion, Setright is the finest automotive author ever (and amongst the best authors full stop), and anything by him is well worth reading. I'm saving up for "Bristol Cars and Engines" by him, as copies of that seem to come in at around £200 ....

Oh, and some obscure German electronic music ('cos I love it.)

Oli.

I used to love reading Setright's musings in 'Car' magazine many moons ago, especially the Bristol articles and his totally insightful stories of his Honda Prelude and its 4 wheel steering.

He helped me differentiate between average motoring hacks writing lazy road test copy and truly great motoring writing

Nick,

If that is the case then I STRONGLY recommend "Drive On" by Setright. That is a superb, superb book, and I guarantee that there are a LOT of cars you simply won't look at in the same way ever again once you have read it. In fact, you may never look at a car in the same way ever again ...

He is generally scathing about Porsche, very scathing in fact, mainly on the basis of the 911's well-documented handling. He is however very complimentary about the 928, although the 924/944/968 don't get a mention.

Having read it a couple of years ago, I badly want a Citroen DS.

Totally with you on that one Oli, or really it'd have to be an SM in my dream garage!

Oops, thread hijack alert[8|][:D]

With Nick on the SM - Still got my metallic pink corgi one.

LJKS - loved reading him in Bike mag late 70s, very clear and totally straightforward, should have had some of him on my list!

Halfords set is great, been 200 quid for ages was 120 this time last year, went to get it in the Jan sale and it was back to 200! Thats why I got it now ..... be warned!
