Sorry it is Cayman and Porsche have said that if i want a warranty on it I need to get the engine check with a camera and oil check I.e £750

 
Although having said that the 3 and 4 are over 200 hours ago.

I guess the the question for you is (if you are looking at buying) do you really want a car that has been driven "so enthusiastically"

If it is your car, fun at this level has a cost...

 
It is my car and I have a bumper to bumper warranty on it that runs out next week and thinking of backing it because of this

 
I think you are within your rights to ask them to explain why the extra checks are needed.

I read lots of over-rev data and what's important in the above is that the time stamp of the last range 4 over-rev was almost 1000 engine hours ago - about 30k miles ago. If that over-rev had caused an engine problem you would know by now.

The rule used to be within 6 months - to do more checks. This was essential for range 5 and 6 - range 4 was debatable.

And the general picture is of a car enthusiastically driven.

We say that 5-20k ignitions in range 1 is normal for a car with 60k mikes. The upper end is the more enthusiastic driving end, but not driven hard. A car driven hard would be pegged at the limit, which is 65k ... which I have seen a few times.

From the engine hours above I'm going to assume you have covered about 42k miles +- 10%

thanks c2dweller for advice as it has helped me and the miles on it is 50k so I think I may have noticed it if there was a problem but porsche will not give me a warranty unless I get a test on the engine for £750, but have spoken to the dealer and they are going to look into it.

 
Something not right with that report. The reading for range 3 and 4 are identical, which is impossible. Rev range 3 count should always be higher than 4. Think I would get that reading checked independently.

How do you work that out? It could go up through 3 quickly and hold at 4 for longer therefore it would show more revs in 4 than 3 [;)]

Are you sure?? That would give false historical readings in the other ranges as they can't be doing all ranges at once. That doesn't sound logical or correct to me at all [&:]

 
I cannot see it very well but to me it looks like

range 3 363

range 4 209

which looks correct .

so clearly a miss shift and yes Porsche will not warranty a car with revs in range 3 unless you pay ££££ for bore checks etc.

I would forget the warranty cost, it's a 2011 car what have you claimed for so far ? and also any part ex going forward, Porsche cannot retail a rev range 3 car these days so they goto auction and all the main 3rd party dealers will not take that car in, sorry for the bad news.

your cars fine as it was ages ago, the issue is rev ranges now are a massive black mark in 3 and above, so people just say buy another, so not an easy thing to now ever sell.

 
Have spoken to the dealer that i got it from they have spoken to porsche and the price to carry out the work comes to 350 so they are willing to go half with me to do the bore test so it is a peace of mind as well

I agree with Mr D, I wouldn't bother putting a warranty on a gen 2 cayman of that age. These cars have proved to have great engines. My R is a similar age. It came with a warranty that lasts until next year but I won't be renewing it.
