Yes it's a miss shift, can be done in any gear if it knocks the revs above 7.7k
But doesn't the rev limiter prevent that? I thought the only way to reach those rev ranges was for the car to be in the wrong gear, so that the engine is driven too fast by the back wheels. Is this not right?
what do you think a miss shift is ! ie. just what you are saying, one has changed into the wrong gear !, it's the same thing, but does not have to be a big 6th to 3rd or 4th to 1st for a rev range 3 to happen, I am sure if one did that you would have ranges in 5 and 6 also and pistons sticking outside the engine !
It can be done in any gear, most people quote the big mis shifts gates.
4th to 3rd will give you a range 3 readout if you do it too early, range 3 is only from 7700 to 7900.
ranges 1 and 2 will trigger just going up the gears bouncing off the limiter as range 1 is only 7200 and < 7500
And a Cayman GTS will goto 7400rpm before the limiter cuts in or there abouts so can also trigger range 2 on red line sports mode shifts.
Range 3 used to be ok with Porsche for 40 odds years, it's only the last 3 years Porsche now poo poo range 3 triggers which is stupid as the engines can goto 7700rpm no issue.
Range 4 and you have messed up some where > 7900 and < 8400 and hence Porsche want to do a leak down test.
range 5 and 6 you have prob blown up the engine and Porsche want to know how, this is the 4th to 1st sort of mess.
