have I bust my engine or exhaust?

Well the news is better than expected so far - that is good. As per Richair - you'll know better after the exhaust if repaired. As for your compression test technique/results - squirting some oil in the cylinder and checking again will show up bad rings as the extra oil will better seal the rings and give a higher reading. If an oil squirt shows no improvement on a cylinder with low compression then that points to bad valve sealing. Fingers crossed!

Should I get another compression test done a new exhaust is fitted? & what's worse, bad rings or bad valve sealing?
Cheers

Stop fussing about it you big jessie! If the exhaust is knackered then have a new one put on.

When that's happened then drive it.

If it drives as it should then keep going until you run out of road, petrol or time.

Rinse and repeat.

Oli.

(At the risk of seeming to contradict Rich, I'd be very surprised if you could get compression readings like that with a bent valve and I doubt you have affected your valvetrain with your slight over-rev experience.)

Big Jessie here, just had my new exhaust fitted, didn't go for the full lot as the advice was it looked fairly new and in good condition, so just had the centre section done including the cats....first signs are good, didn't have time for an extended drive, just through town, but seems to revving beautifully again....thanks for all the help, especially Oli for helping me cool my boots

Never mind "Big Jessie"-more like "knickers & twists":ROFLMAO:
Pleased to hear likely solution-must be a relief[&o]
