Having fun in Wales

You are not wrong in your view of the 951 having it's performance reduced Jim...I have read various articles on the subject varying from making the car easier to drive for the average driver to keeping it's performance below the 911 as you say. However, Porsche clearly failed in this as confirmed in a press interview IIRC late 80's or early 90's when the designer being interviewed, when asked which car was the fastest in the fleet, made it very clear that this title went to the 951..faster than the 928 GT and faster than the 911 turbo of the day. Now we all know which car is fastest on paper but as was pointed out you can drive the 951 at very high speeds and still have a very stable platform...you know!...not finding yourself going backwards into a hedge at speed. I've also read that when choosing a car from the factory pool most employee's chose the 951 first.....
