He Bent My Baby

I feel for you.[]

Probably £3k's - from what I can see - rear panel, rear bumper, one rear embelisher, repair the rear upper panel?

Well I guess at least it still drives, but I sympathise also.

It's much worse than when a colleague rear-ended my S2 coupe which only needed a bumper and that cost a grand so I doubt Carl is far out, unless it's significantly more than he suggests.

Ouch! [:(]sorry to hear about your prang, I almost had the same thing from a passat driver last week, I heard this screech from behind, heard his ABS kick in and thankfully he stopped about 3 inches from my rear end. I have never seen such a look of sheer panic on someones face before.

Arrgh!

I know a bodyshop in Telford where the owners specialise in 944s (or they did about 4 years ago when I went to look at one they had for sale). They had a few 944s that all looked absolutely gorgeous, even though teh owners seemd very much like 'wideboys' who should be avoided.

Racking my brains to think of their name and I think it was something like CMS or Charlton Motor Services?

Yep, that's them. I spent a long time talking to them about a Silver Rose they were rebuilding before I bought my current car - 4 years ago. Don't know if they are still around.

Found them:

I went to look at an insurance writeoff Silver Rose that had every single panel smashed in by an angry wife [] It looked absolutely beautiful, I could not fault the paint work. The only reason I did not buy it was a) The HPI listing and b) He dropped the clutch from 6k revs absolute cold and screamed out of the car park sideways on the demo run. The paintwork was nice but who knew about the state of the engine [&:]

If I were using them for bodywork I'd make sure the car had no petrol in the tank and the boost wound down [:)]

I bet it was the same car. When I was talking about it it needed a turbo rebuild as it was smokey - I didn't get the length of going to see it. I think he was also switching it to burundy leather.

Yes thats the one. He had replace the pink tartan interior with Burgundy and did show me a receipt for a brand new Turbo. Such a shame the way he treated it from cold or I would have had it. They had added an extra layer of silver paint to the Silberossa pink and it did look much nicer than a normal Silver Rose - more Silver than Rose. The Forged wheels were polished chrome tho - very bling.

Sims would have loved it [;)]

Thanks Guys, I actually live about 1/2 mile from CMS & have asked previously if Steve does bodywork, unfortunatly he now only does the rebuilds that he is doing to sell on. I do agree that he does a good job, shame he's not interested in working on other peoples cars anymore.

Yes! I remember he told me he did that with the paint. To be honest I was put off by the changes from standard. If I had bought a silver rose then I wanted it to be a silver rose, even with the dirty silver paint and pink tartan interior. In fact my final choice was between a black silver rose spec car that Ray Northway was selling for a customer after fitting a head gasket and the one I bought.

I had sort of forgotten what they were like and I didn't see a proper silver rose coloured one until Highclere that year (by which time I had my Glacier car) and was pleased I didn't hold out for one once I saw what they are like in the metal.

Hi Graeme,Really sorry to see you`ve been rear-ended.Don`t take any crap from the insurance hold out for a proper Porsche-approved bodyshop repair job.
best of luck,
regards,
jr.

Graham,

Just thought of something you should know.......

When my little accident happened, the other other parties insurance company contacted me, and wanted to settle everything up front. This sounded very tempting, however.....

When I phoned my own insurance company to say "everything's okay thanks", they said that if I accepted their offer, I wouldn't get agreed value. This would have meant that my car would almost cetainly have been written off, and I would have only got about £8k back for it.

They said that as soon as I let another assesor look at the car, my own agreed value policy was null and void for agreed value.

Just wanted to mention it incase you have the same problem!

Holy sheeeeeeeeeet []

Mine has been resprayed in a silver colour

Its had a new turbo

Its got a Burgundy interior

Phew.................standard wheels though.....[:D]

Thanks to all of you for your sympathy & special thanks to you Carl as it was after reading of your own woes that I made sure I got an agreed value policy this year, & every year from now on.

Went along to Reynolds of Rushock this afternoon to get the quote done & Gary the assessor noticed that the rear quater panel has a kink at the top of the wheel arch & that the bottom where it meets the sill has sprung inwards breaking the joint, the boot floor is also under tension. All up this means that the repairs will be over £6k at first guess, this puts me into the write off zone. I now have the dilema of
a) Do I take the money & look for another? (still can't afford Slim's car)
b) Do I take the money, buy the car back & get it repaired using secondhand parts. But it will be on HPI?
c) Do I hold out for the repairs to be done?

You have my sympathy - mine was hit last week. Must be open season on Porsche drivers.

I would be careful if you decide to get it fixed with second hand parts. I do a lot of this kind of work and its always worse than it looks when you strip it down. Repairs always go over budget, you spend forever trying to trace that elusive (sp) part and it takes months. Matching the paint is a nightmare and often proves easier to respray the whole car.

A lot of people have said thier car never drives the same again after a shunt like that, if the boot floor has dented the alignment could be out. Something else to consider, it you sell it in the future it won't be worth as much.

If it was my car I'd either push for it to get fixed by a garage of my choice or take the money and run.
