Hello Again!

Hi, some of you will remember I used to frequent these pages a few years back when I had a particularly high-mileage Turbo which was then followed by a rather tasty 968 Sport with all of the M030 option boxes ticked....unfortunately that was written off 6 months later in an unfortunate aquaplaning incident :(

Now then, I was recently granted Senior management Approval to buy a 2 seat Convertible for around £5k and busied myself drawing up a shortlist of BMW Z4 3.0s and Boxster 2.7s and then saw this down the road from me:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Porsche-944-S2-1991/272955739431?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l9372

and something stirred.... :) it is even new enough to take the private plate my Wife bought for me after the 968 incident: J60 SLO

have any of you, my learned friends, been to see this one at all?

By my reckoning I think it will need around £1500-2500 spending to get it right, depending on how much spannering I do myself. i have checked with him about the Sills, they have been welded in the past but not the neatest job, so will need re-doing/tidying up at some point later.

I have checked with Senior Management and, after a lot of eye rolling and sighing, I can go for it if it is fundamentally a solid car.

Her car is in at Dove House today having a service so will have a chat with Tony (ex Silverstone Porsche Workshop manager) when I go and pick it up to get his view on the Jacking points and Braking system overhaul it needs

any other comments gratefully recieved!
(BTW it is nice to be back!)
Cheers
Jeremy

Is that just your old one now got so pink that it has turned white???? Welcome back! A lot quieter on here these days.

Hi Rob! yes, the pink Porsche is still a standing joke in our house!

the colour is the main issue, we have had 3 silver cars in a row, so my Missus is dead against a 4th! It is quite an unusual colour for a 944 and I think when polished up properly will look quite good

To be fair white wouldn't have been my first choice in the past but I know have 6 series beemer in alpine white and it looks stunning. I think when looked after white can look really good.

Looks a reasonable car but has been sat around for several years now. Obviously corrosion is the main issue, particularly if it has spread further than the sills. Brake issues on MOT are no big deal although watch out for plate lift.. Usual S2 caveats on cams/chain apply.

The good thing is that you have experience of 944's so should be able to make an informed assessment when you drive it

Just noticed that whilst the belts were only done 30k miles ago it seems to be at least 8 years ago, so that will need changing won't it?

No Problem Rob, I have had to give in and use Reading Glasses now!

Thanks EDH, judging by the MoT history it has been doing 500-700 miles a year, it would probably do that in the first week of my ownership!!

I wouldn't risk it (belts, rollers, water pump probably)

Hi Jeremy, did you buy it? I have been texting the seller but the rust put me off. Plus it's not local to me so travelling to view not easy. The belts were done years ago so would need doing again, I spotted that too. I noticed it has lived in Aberdeen, maybe that explains the rust (living by the sea)

Thanks Jasonp, Blade: no comment!

Alpine, I didn't get to speak to Tony when I picked up my Wife's car from Dove House tonight (he was busy with a customer and his 996 Turbo) but i am back there on Thursday for some follow-up work so will speak to him then about the rust/ABS/Belt. I might go and test drive a Boxster and Z4 tomorrow and then see if I can drive the 944 on Thursday so I can make a proper judgement

I bought my Mrs a 2.7 Boxster a few months ago, well I bought it for myself but she has adopted it.

As much as I love 944's, see my other thread [:)] , for the money there is no comparison between a 944 needing work and a more modern Boxster.......the Boxster wins every time.

If you bought a decent £5k Boxster and spent another £1500 on a precautionary clutch/IMS change you'll be a very happy boy.

Cheers, Paul

Nice to see you here again, Jeremy!

That doesn't look bad for the money, but then it could be needing a lot spending on it and we know how that can end. Worth a good look though. That registration is screaming "buy me" to me..... [8|]

A certain P,boro Indy will upgrading their holiday plans :ROFLMAO:.

Boxsters are the value buy these days....you can get a great one for ~5k.

IMS issue is a bit overstated & the fix appears to be to remove the outer oil seal.

I suspect the rust / cills are pretty bad. I asked the seller to email me some close up pics and he hasn't done so.
