Hello chaps, Robbie here!

I have NFS Porsche unleashed as well. It looks good but I must admit it is too like all the other arcadey racers and the physics dont match up to the ones in GPL. I wouldn't mind an online race tho, where I would probably get mercilessly thrashed.

Ah things were better in '67 [:D] I'll go back to my flat cap, pipe and anorak now [8|]

the physics dont match up to the ones in GPL.

As far as I am aware the physics engine employed in GPL still remains the benchmark by which all other racing sims (a truly great term[;)]) are measured, despite now being over 10 years old. When Papyrus bought out Nascar IV all the related forums decryed the fact that, having used a different pysics engine, it wasn't as good as GPL.

GPL opened my eys to what was the dying embers of truly great Formula 1, when men were men and must have had gonads the size of footballs. As a result of my GPL experience I class the Lotus 49 as one (if not The) truly great racing cars of all time.

Sorry Robbie, we seem to have hi jacked this thread and beaten it to a state where it bears no relation to the title at all. [&o]

now this is strange, I've heard a lot about GPL mainly because I'm a racing sim fan and it's physics are supposed to be second to none but it's never appealed to me (My loss I guess).
But to say that the Porsche version of NFS is too arcadey is selling it far short IMNSHO :) It bears little resemblence to the other NFS games which are 100% arcade with no apologies but Porsche is a different kettle of fish alltogether It has full 4 wheel suspension modeleing and the different cars behave very differently, It's quite an easy game to play until you reach the 914's and then it really get's interesting because it's not possible to win the race without altering the car setup and that's where the fun really begins. After you get through to the end and start again you realise how much better the earlier cars can be driven, also it's perfectly easy to learn the courses properly and put a well set up car into a four wheel slide around a difficult corner and power out of it with the accelerator and a flick of the steering wheel (just like real life then :)
It's for sale here at ÂŁ8.99

give it a spin if you don't yet have it and if you do give it another go.

You can find the FAQ here which tells you how to get more out of the game (Much more)

It does have a quick race arcade mode which is not so good TBH and a factory driver mode where you get to be a test driver for Porsche (and who here would not want that job :)

Tim.

I find the problem with GPL, is that why the Physics may be good unfortunately they cannot transfer the G-forces, steering feel etc. needed for feedback which makes it very difficult to be succesfull. I also have a joystick (or possibly a faulty gameport) that leaps about all over the place, so smoothness is very difficult to achieve as are right turns currently!

ah.......you haven't seen my full force feedback setup then

Thats sad!!!

It's not sad it's pretty damn dedicated, I'd love a go. Needs a bigger screen though.

However the stick on guages are a bit borderline :)

Tim.

Ha - I could not be that sad really, here is my real setup [8D]

Note the trousers tucked in socks for speed [8|]

Well, did I really start this thread all that time ago.

Thanks for the welcome chaps.

I havn't replied earlier as I normally access this forum from my office PC but because of some new software on that PC I can't get through.

I just get a message saying that there is something I need to reconfigure to get through.

Typical PCGB arrogance, a multi-national with 20,000 PC's has to re-configure it's standard desktop to suit the PCGB.

Still enough of all that stuff.

I took the car off the road at the begining of December as the insurance came due and as NU wanted more money without track day cover than previously with it I decided to look around. Also I don't enjoy driving the car in the dark afternoons, to many poorly adjusted headlights for such a low car.

Hence it's been garaged, the plan is back on the road for the 1st May though. I think I'm going to put the interior back as well. Just change to the bucket seat for the odd track day.

Any good events coming up?

Well I personally am looking forward to the Brand Hatch Festival as I have just heard that Steve Kevlin is trying to organise a 'toe in the water' sprint event, around the track in front of all the spectators purely for first time competitors.

I think that calls for my competitive debut []

I'm sure that nothing deliberate was done...
What is the problem that you are getting? If you can provide details then Jeff will be able to see if there is anything that can be done when he gets back from Hols.

Welcome back - but I wouldn't worry about not driving your car - everyone here seems to ony be playing video games[;)]

I was thinking of sprinting my Turbo at the end of the season anyhow, so I am DEFINITELY up for that so long as the car is ready.

The change was at my end Mark, firewall software or something like that. In truth I'm not that bothered as I get on with more work.

As regards the car, I think not driving it for a few months is quite a good idead. I'm really looking forward to getting it back on the road.
