Hello from new owner!

Hello to all. I've been lurking a little on here (RS bit anyway) for a good 9months now. Finally have picked up my new car at the weekend. Some of you may know it - a certain Mint Green Clubsport......

Anyway, first impressions? well, a trip around the M25 home, on a very cold January eve. is not the place to learn about the handling characteristics. Still it did not disappoint. So far, I've not had any chance to use the brakes, have noted that for certainly for road use, the pedals are not set up for H&T, I'm guessing on circuit that they will be fine, but may try adjusting the height of throttle(is this easy to do?), when I bleed the brakes next .

I understand that the car has a decent circuit setup, which does make it a little jittery on the road (just how I like them!), to be honest, we all know that you cant use cars like this in anger on the road, so the ride may as well be interesting. What did strike me was how stiff the chassis is!!! The chassis and handling, felt as good as my caterham. Amazing for a car over twice the weight. Whilst I havent quite worked out the steering, the car feels very chuckable, and does inspire confidence over the bumps. I do look forward to learning how to drive it!

Right now, it needs a damn good clean (Des included a sponge in the sale!), and the weather needs to improve so I can aquaint myself with the car a bit more. I do intend to use the car on the track at some point in the future, but will work out how to drive it in the meantime.

Look forward to meeting many of you at an event soon. And thanks to Melv for the help and advice so far.

It all comes together on Track ... enjoy it Hugh, no doubt as seasoned Caterham Racer round Spa (Podium 2nd out of 76 starters last time Spa) he is going to kick some big a""e ....... so beware Minty will be on the ravage .....[;)] Sent you pm about plates lost your numbers as F**KBERRY is down .....[>:]

From one owner of a Des Sturdee cast-off to another... Welcome to the team Hugh. Rich

You need to get it up on a ramp and ensure you have a brush to hand to remove all the gravel. Also be careful driving it above 4000rpm and above 70 mph as previous sightings of the car show it has never been above these before. Also check the left indicator as the right one appears to have been on a lot. Also if the first time you use it on track there seems to be a huge queue of traffic behind you in your mirror don't panic...its used to it. [;)][;)][;)] Its a shame you have bought now though as I hear the value of these has begun to plummet. Interestingly just about the time that tricked up bitza 3.2's are now worth 50k+. [;)][;)] Welcome to the gang and get it on a track!

Be very weary of the sponge you found in Des's old car... [&:]

certain Mint Green Clubsport......
Hugh, You've joined the RS Club and the Mint Green Club all in one go. Looking forward to seeing the car one of these days in the flesh. Will you be posting video of driving the car like Des in '09? I hope so. Regards

Thanks for the comments folks. I'm not sure this one has been in the gravel? First indications and inspection dont reveal gravel, or gravel rash on the car. So either Des got of lightly, or there is a bit of story telling going on here. Whilst I do intend the track the car eventually, dont expect to see it on track too soon, need to put some pennies back in the bank and do a few small jobs on the car first. Also, I see Des is hyping my driving potential already!! I wont drive the car like I drive the caterham (cant afford the risks!), and only plan to have a little fun on track to enjoy the car as intended. So anyone got any comments on the pedal setup. Do most RS drivers have no issues with H&T on the road? How much travel is there on a well bled system, and how do you adjust the throttle?

The contractors at Donington Park have been in touch - they would be grateful if you took the car on track there and with some heavy braking you should be able to dump sufficient trapped kitty litter from Silverstone on to the track to enable them to complete the upgrade! [:D][:D][:D]

congrats on the purchase of the minty one. heel n toe will likely be fine when you get it on track......when I first stepped into my 993 RS, found I needed to be pressing on a bit to bring everything into alignment. if it is still no good, you can adjust the incline of the throttle pedal by disconnecting the linkage behind the pedal itself, adjust to desired position and then re-connect. have a look behind the pedal and you'll see what I mean ! have fun and get yourself a long to spa for the PCF days. cheers

Pedal set up on my Cup Car: -extra accelerator rubber glued to original; -Sparco pedal extension screwed slightly right of centre to brake pedal -perfect! Before that it was a PITA and I struggled to H&T smoothly on the green beast at Spa...

Ah! OK, thankfully no lasting damage, usually a trip to the kitty litter, means gravel everywhere and peppered paint work. Cant find any evidence on this one though.

Excellent, thanks Melv, good to hear from someone who has driven it. Will take a look and see, would be nice to get it slightly easier for road without compromising the track setup.

Hi there, congrats on the purchase! As Ben said, the accelerator is adjustable and so is the break pedal however make sure that the brake light switch is not affected.

Hugh don't listen to them ... they are all jealous of my driving skills ... Mint gREEN is an impossible colour to pass .... I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN THE kitty litter in the Minty ... spun a few times .... so she should be clean .. found her much more planted and focussed than my Olde wHITE rs cARPET, NOW i DID manage a bit of Baech in that ...... Good Luck Hugh ... must take her to Spa 15-17th

OK cool, I'll get used to you lot no doubt. I'm afraid Spa wont work for me at the moment, clashes with Oulton Park in the other car. 65 Mat, thanks will check the pedals out. The gap between brake and throttle is vast! I get my foot between them! Pedal extension looks likely....
