Hi guys. New on here. Just bought a 944 Lux in Nile green (ile probably live to regret that :) ). Thought i'd say hi and show off a few piccies!. She's a D reg (reg 87) and has been to the moon. Purchased recently off the bay and so far seems to reliable. Needs paintwork to front end, power steering sorting (has slow leak) but otherwise seems all good. Does anyone know this car?, was brought back from Andover area, but used to live in Bournemouth (where it is again now)

Hi retro and welcome to the forum.... I wouldn't be concerned with how much mileage she's done, back in 88 i think Porsche did a test on a 944 where it was driven continually for 12 months with just the basic services being given when due. After that they stripped her down completely and measured everything for wear, she did very well with everything still being within tolerance and little wear showing at all.. oh and BTW the mileage covered over those 12 months was an incredible 500,000k or 320,000 miles so in fact she went to the moon and back and showed little sign that she had done so...[:)][:)][:)]

Thks, well she's done 187,000 ..so far. Couple of little things need sorting..just bought timing and balance shaft belts, and getting those changes asap! :)

You'll always find little things to do on a car over 20 years old, good to hear your starting with the belts these are important for a broken belt can spell disaster with these cars, have fun you won't find many cars as good as a 944...[8D]

Until you try a 968 he said (rather tongue in cheek, having started with a 944 lux then 944S before moving to the 968 10 1/2 years ago!!)

Main thing is don't let it be a garage queen, these cars are for driving and enjoying, they're very practical, mostly quite cheap to service and (if you have a few grey hairs) insure - I've spent more insuring and servicing a Rover 820 turbo vitesse than a 944 or 968!

ENJOY!!

Hi

The cars are great fun and you'll meet the best of people too.

Mine shows 168k but had at least 3 years of daily use but the MOTs are all the same milage!

AFAIK there's only one other Nile Green car here, Will's Turbo. I know he researched the number of cars imported in that colour, must be one of the rarest? [8|]

... and the worst! >WavesAtRetroreject<.

Hope you enjoy it. They're cracking cars, and even more cracking when you consider how cheap they are.

Welcome.

cheers for all the comments guys. Had it into a friends garage this evening. Changed gearbox oil, and identified power steering leak to a split steering rack gaitor..thankfully nothing too serious. Theres a little corrosion to the bottom corner of the rear wing (near to the suspension mount :( ...so that will need sorting. Yeh the car is now being used daily as it's now my only motor. Ive been driving (and into) old vw's and Audis. Just sold my 1987 Audi coupe GT (Early Quattro shape)..but climbed the ladder to Porsche ownership!

I'm a similar refugee from old VW's. You'll find the 944 a very familiar car - clearly from the same design workshop, with a LOT of common parts. (I have heard them called "Rich man's Audi" and "Just a very good VW" - both of which are true, to a degree.)

Everyone at work ( i work for a Motors Discount store) say's its just a old Passat!..and why dont i just get a Passat and stop mucking about! (mind you, that's what they said about my audi) :(
