Hello

(For extra brownie points you need to proclaim that the 944 has never been equalled, let alone bettered by Porsche, but that's probably why you bought one in the first place, eh?)
I thought everyone knew that anyway , hell Porsche knew it themselves back in the 944 heyday, just read the comments made by the then CEO and Porsche engineers. Add to that how well the 944 turbo did against current models in the Michelin Porsche cup , so well in fact that they were banned even after the GT3 had been added to the lineup and still got beat by our old humble cars.. I could go on.. but hey you guys know the truth already.. or you would have gone out and bought one of those 911 thingies.....[:)][:)][:)] Pete

Interesting Pete. Do you happen to have a copy of those comments from the CEO of the time? Oli.

I do still have it somewhere.. it was only recently in fact that i re-read one of my many road tests from the late 80's when IIRC Peter Schultz( spelling) said that the 944 turbo was the quickest car in the fleet, this was in answer to the journalist asking him first for his top 3 cars which where 928Gt, 911 turbo , 944 turbo in that order, when asked what was the fastest car on the road of the three he said the 944 turbo. I'll try to find it again and scan it Pete

.... and post pictures of rusty sills (not mis-spelling them 'cills'), agree that red ones are faster, acknowledge the respectable insanity of Mr Empson and recognise the inherent superiority of the S2 over all other models (sorry Simon, 'trim levels') of 944 ... ... then you'll fit in just fine! (For extra brownie points you need to proclaim that the 944 has never been equalled, let alone bettered by Porsche, but that's probably why you bought one in the first place, eh?) Oli.
i'm hoping i don't encounter too much rust! and this is the 1st Porsche i've ever owned, previous car was a 320BHP BMW 2002 turbo. been a bimmer fan for years, drive Ferrari at work so don't see the point in driving one in my free time as well, i will post my views on the 944 once i've had some time to play ;o) cheers, JuvUK

It would keep life simple if we called the late cars "oval-dash", as most people understand this without needing a degree in 944 evolution. It's perfectly correct to get all pedantic over the difference between "super" and "series", but does add to the confusion.[8|]

oval dash, and although it's registered as an '87 car it was built in'86 does this help to tell me what i've got? i believe it's a series 2 2.5 lux? is that right? thanks, JuvUK

Sounds right, if it's the 8 valve engine. It's either that, or a turbo (will have a turbo fitted lol) or a 16 valve "S", with a 16 valve head fitted.

Probably best for future accusition of parts to forget using the word series.. if I understand you correctly you have a Porsche 944 lux 2.5 oval dash if so it's a good choice of car. This car was voted as the best handling car in the US in the 80's, it was also voted as the car most wanted by customers in the UK and as Dr F.Porsche himself said " To my family, the 944 is more than a new car. It is a new and true Porsche." You can't get better than that...[:)][:)] Pete

Hi Juvuk, Wow a whole 30 posts from a simple "Hello" [:D][:D] Must be a record LOL Just acquired an '82 Lux in Red and looking forward to some nice driving after a few bits have been sorted. Jeff

Hello and welcome to the joys (and occasional traumas) of 944 ownership. [:)][;)] Think I read that interview too about the 944 turbo being quickest in the fleet - think it was along the lines of the easiest to drive quickly or words to that effect ?

hiya justin,a very warm welcome and enjoy your 944, they are very addictive and great fun regards jason p

Well we seem to have had several new 944 owners join this week so hello to all of them and welcome on board [:D] This seems to be one of the longest welcome threads we've had in a while and follows our usual meandering path going on and off topic. Once you've learnt to keep up with sudden changes of subject then you'll all fit in fine [:)]

Jon I beleive its the quickest for real world driving, A to B fast! (ie a lot more useable performance than a 911 Turbo!) Mike

With regards to pedantry: I feel that it would be best/easiest if everyone used the correct terms to describe their car. This way thered be much less confusion, and help and advice coud be more easily obtained on the forum: and parts, both new and used, off the forum. So much confusion is caused by people adopting incorrect and made-up names for their cars: which only exist because they arent familiar with the correct names. Suggesting your own favourite, incorrect term, for use wont add clairty, nor will it help a new user..... Simon

But then life would be boring and we'd all be calling our 944's 945's as that is the correct factory term...[;)] Edd

Erm..... *tries not to* It isnt the factory term. Absolute proof of this (smug-Turbo-owner-perpetuated, usually with an 'Im clever and know more than you' wink) myth being false can be found by looking at right hand drive 944 or 944 Turbo VINs. Using the Turbo as an example, they will read: WPOzzz95zHN10xxxx. You can see from thi that the factory regarded a right hand drive 944 Turbo as a 951; not a 952. 952 is the part number prefix for right hand drive specific parts, thats all. Going back to my earlier post: its just another incorrectly made up name... *failed* [:D]

Most of it was hard-learned, from long before t'internet.....Im lucky that Ive remembered quite a lot. Contrary to how it may seem, I have a life: girlfriend and other interests [:D]
