[8D]Welcome onboard and look forward to the banter :ROFLMAO: So lets start with is it a
2.7 or the "S"

Hi black8oxsa welcome from a fellow newbie. I have come across you before[:D]
nice to see someone close to where i am , ie , wirral ,which is just the other side of chester.
so whats your car ,

Here's the spec:-

2.7 Manual
Black - I always have black cars (and Basalt wasn't metallic enough to justify ÂŁ560)
18" Turbo IIs (hopefully with Yokohama tyres, but probably not [&:])
Sport Design Interior - yes, its the cheap skates way of getting leather and sports seats
Heated Seats
Obligatory Air Con
Obligatory Wind Deflector

Due for May build, but as of yesterday nothing showing for specific build slot
Supplied from Mann Island, Liverpool

My only real concern is with ground clearance as my driveway has a bit of a hump after traversing the pavement. Been crawling under the Boxsters in the showroom measuring the underbody engine protection and the front brake defelctor channels. I'm becoming more convinced I won't get it on the drive [:(]

And experiences on speed humps etc would be appreciated

Hi Black80XSA

Welcome to the PCGB forum. I'm sure you'll enjoy it across here as well as Boxa.net. [;)]

You mentioned speed bumps. My car is fine over them. I do take it easy, but my car has never "bottomed" over them. [8D] ( I may stand corrected by other members though)

I'm sure that you will love the car. Black is a good choice of colour too.[:D]

Flat Black is the best colour! Beware the hours of Zymolling needed to keep it that way - but worth it![8D]

Helen and I had the AeroII kit fitted last year and have no problems with speed bumps. I would think it would have to be GT3-like (lowered and aerokit) to worry about, and that's quite hard to achieve on a Boxster me-thinks! (I am sure someone will dispute this[;)]).
Just don't take them too fast.

Enjoy your new baby!

Lazza

Thanks guys, hope you're right about the ground clearance. I was further encouraged yesterday when a 996 Turbo cleared the rather large speed ramps at my local retail park.

As for the Zymol - not an issue - Vintage once a month, Concours glaze in the winter (cos it too cold in Wales for Vintage in the winter, even with a heated garage).

welcome to the PCGB forum David your find it a lot quieter over here.

as Lazza has said we now have a GT3 body kit on our Boxster which makes the ground clearence quite a bit lower. and provided you take speed bumps very slow we have had no problems.
even been on and off ferrys at low tide with no problem....thow it was a bit worrying.

Hi there,

To further put your mind at rest I have the sports pack on my car which I believe makes it a little closer to the ground (please correct me if i'm wrong) and have to drive down an unmade road every day to get to my house.

Promise you faithfully i've never heard that horrible, heart plummeting, scraping noise from the bottom of the car.

Enjoy your new purchase

Dawn

welcome as well. Maybe see you at a club night one day. Black is best and the seagulls in N Wales aren't fussy whatever the colour

I have to drive up a full kerb to get on to my "driveway" the car never has a problem clearing it. For comparison my MINI just scrapes some of the front trim and my neighbour cant get his 3 series BMW up it out an almighty scraping noise so the boxster has some surprising clearance

Dawn,

I'm not sure the sports pack makes the car lower? Look in the Service Book or under the bonnet for the spec sticker - M030 indicates Sport Suspension.

Well, my last two three series were OK, both with sport suspension. My most recent CLK was OK too.

The drive was 'modified' by the builder before we moved in as my 530d bottomed out on the sills. They took some of the 'dome off the hump and it was OK.

I hope you are all right with your positive views. Only time will tell [;)]

For what it's worth, I have a very steep drive which even an X5 gets close on. The Boxster clears it, just.

My zymoling experience is limited to Titanium, can you tell the difference of the more expensive waxes?

Cheers
Dave

My zymoling experience is limited to Titanium, can you tell the difference of the more expensive waxes?

Well Dave,

in terms of water beading and dirt not sticking I can't say I've noticed that much difference. But in terms of depth of shine I think there's a huge difference, especially once you get a few coats of wax on.

With anything below Concours I never seemed to gain much after the initial cleanse and wax. With the more expensive formulas you can see the benefit of regular waxing.

Of course it does depend on the colour of the car -it is more noticeable on darker colours.

The only problem then is that you see how badly the door skins are pressed (I haven't seen one yet that would meet Japanese stds sorry) and every car park ding is magnified tenfold.

Welcome!

Excellent choice of car :)

As to car covers, I know the CoverCraft ones fit very well (I have a weathershield one).
One of the "heavier" ones might do for your needs?

I found www.bigskycarcovers.com were much cheaper than UK suppliers.

Welcome!

I also recommend the Covercraft Weathershield. Water just beads off it and it folds up into a neat small bag.

Hello to a newbie from a newbie!

I only joined the forum (and PCGB) recently myself, if you haven't done so already I can reccomend joining PCGB as the monthly magazine is excellant!

Sorry can't help on the cover point, but i'm sure someone will ... seems like that kind of place. To be honest you'll be too busy driving it all the time when the sun starts to shine to even worry about covering it up! [;)]

Thanks guys, looks good. Taken a look at the site and way cheaper than here!! covercraft watershield seems like a good choice. I Will email them as cant seem to get a delivery quote to the uk using the site.

I shall most definately join up..

Thank you for the quick replies and the welcome!

If you are leaving the car outside a lot, then something heavier like Noah might be better?
I use the Weathershield when travelling - as stated it folds/rolls up to nothing, but I wonder if it might be too light for everyday use?
