Hi All,

I have a problem on the backside of the distributor is a plug with 3 pins, well my wires are broken right at the plug. What is this for and where can i get a replacement plug. looks like the wires where previuously fixed as near the air filter the wiring loom has been cut and wires reconneted.

HI all,

I believe this is called the hall sensor not sure what it does but does anyone have the wiring diagram?

Thanks

Is that an S2 and if thats a picture at the front of the engine behind the dizzy then its prob not the variable reluctanc sensor as thats at the back on the flywheel.

I could be wrong but I think the S2 uses a 60-2 flywheel and a VR sensor to give engine rotation information to the DME. I don't think it measures cam position.

Edit: Maybe this is used by the ignition system? The ignition system does seem to be a bit different to the lux/turbo which is what I have worked on.

Hi All,

Is a 87 944s 16V 2.5, yes it is at the back of the distributer. The car starts ok but doesn't seem to have power

Thanks

Gavin

This is the root of your problem.. Your car knows where tdc is from the crank sensor but doesn't know if it is injecting on No1 or No4 stroke..

The DME doesn't know the position of the engine in the 4 stroke cycle as you say. But that's why it has a distributor, the dizzy is on the cam and that sends the spark to the right cylinder. If it didn't have a way of getting the spark to the right cylinder the engine wouldn't run.

does anyone know the what wire goes to what pin, I have a shield, white and brown wire.

Thanks

Sorry, does look like the S2 has a hall sender. Is it this bit:

Apparently the DME defaults to 6 degrees advance without the hall sensor in. So its not an issue with knowing which cylinder it has to fire on but it just uses some default ignition retard which is why you have poor performance.

hope it is the problem, so if anyone has the wring colours to the pin so I can repair my loom that would be brilliant.

took the multi plug off the hall effect sensor on my S2..

Welcome to the forum btw, hope I didn't seem to agressive arguing a point! I have an interest in the engine management system on the 944 so I like to understand how it works....
