Help - Independent Porsche Specialists Scotland

Guest

New member
Does anyone know of any reputable and reliable independents in Scotland, preferably near Aberdeen (or otherwise)?

A search of this forum and on the web hasn't produced much for me, although I probably haven't tried hard enough!

Sorry to be lazy, but I would be most grateful for any help.

Afraid I don't but would also be interested also, although around the Glasgow area for me. Also are independents able to service a car which is covered by Porsche yr 3 warrenty and will the warrenty remain in force? i.e do Porsche warrenties mean the car must be serviced by an OPC?[]

That's a good question. I've an idea it is now allowable to have routine servicing carried out by a non-OPC without affecting the warranty, provided OEM parts are used and the service has been carried out in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions. However, I'm off to search a few posts to try and clarify.

The cost of OPC servicing has now been standardised across the UK (£105/hr). Some centres will become cheaper, and some more expensive as a result.

The OPC Aberdeen falls into the latter category, going up by £26 per hour!

This is principally why I'm looking for a good independent!

Is that before or after VAT?

Greig, £ 105 inc VAT. Bargain hey?

Richard, Yes I've trawled the net to no avail.

I do know of a couple of independants, one where I used to get my 944 serviced - but they don't specialise anymore, the other I wouldn't trust to service a lawnmower - but I haven't seen them advertising as a specialist recently anyway.

i just had my boxster serviced by motortune in shotts , he is an approved porsche specialist, he had a couple of 944's and 911 's + my boxster , total for the minor service including oil and inspection was a little over £100 , with book stamped accordingly , Absolutly first class service , with time taken to explain things . i wouldnt hestitate to go back even though its around 100 miles from me here in arbroath , although i have heard very good reports of service from the aberdeen porsche centre

Gregor - That was a seriously good deal! The oil alone for my last annual service cost more than that! What oil did they use and what was the hourly rate? I might have to see about cutting a deal with someone down here.

Have heard good things about Motortune, but what do you mean by "approved Porsche specialist". Approved by whom? Not hair splitting just interested.

What model of 911 was it? 964, 993, 996?

There is no "" approved Porsche specialist " other than an OPC this is just a list of companies that offer good value and know there way around a Porsche ..over the many years of ownership I have used most of these people ...it does seem that MT are comming out on top on this debate ,you use the person that you are happy with ,one thing that is for sure they all know there way around a Porsche.

Mark, that's where I had my 944 serviced for 7 years but I don't think they would do'996's (although I stand to be corrected on that.)

Highly recommended nonetheless. I believe the guy that ran Pitstop (now run by his son I think?) used to race Porsches and certainly knew his stuff.

I'm going to follow some advice given and bite the bullet for a few years more*, then go independent when the car is older.

*Unless of couse, OPCs further hike the hourly rate [:'(]

Its only on parts and entirely discretional by the OPC, which seems to mean I don't get it on anything big (like clutch parts etc)....but if I want it off a t-shirt, no problem [>:]

Hi Guys Sorry for not getting back to you , to answer a few questions
the oil used was
8ltr of Esso ultra 10w/40 cost £39.60
oil filter £9.90
The test and check car over , including a road test + oil and filter came to £102 vat was £17.85

I looked at the documentation on the wall , he has the porsche sevice technicians certificates, and has been approved by porsche with regard to parts and fitting ( again there was some sort of document on the wall )
embedded in the picture is a copy of the stamp .

I kid you not , the attention to detail that he spent on the car , was far better than i ever got with my Mercedes at an OPC
