Help me spec my 997 please

As I've posted before I have a facelift 997 on order for Sept delivery. I spend some time at the dealer this afternoon with Mrs Mex99 and the good news is the kids fit in a back (easily actually) so I have a green light.

We spent ages on spec, I saw a Ruby Red which I had thought I would go with, but lovely as it is it is just not right somehow. My wife thinks the Greys / Silvers (I currently have Meteor on the Cayman) are a bit dull, (although did like GT Silver), but loved the black wheels on White car that they had in the showroom"¦The 1984 Carrera 3.2 that I saw on the cover of Fast Lane magazine (Issue 1 "" I still have it) which made me want a Porsche was also white, so maybe its fate??

Anyway this is my current thought on spec, all comments much appreciated. I'm trying to achieve"¦"¦..Wow!! but with a sporty spec but comfortable enough to drive every day"¦..

I will consider the pdk as news comes through and expect bluetooth in place of the phone module.

Generation 2 997 Carrera S
Carrera White
19" Carrera Sport Wheels Painted Basalt Black
Sports Seats in Black
ParkAssist
Red Tail lights

Sport Chrono
Sports Exhaust
Sport Seat Backrest in Exterior colour
Heated Seats
Floor Mats
Instrument dials in Carrera White
Three spoke sport steering wheel in smooth leather
Rear section of centre console in leather
Gear lever and handbrake in aluminium
Door entry guards in Stainless Steel
Extended Navigation
Telephone module

Thanks"¦"¦"¦

I think you have most of the options money can buy. One I really love is Cruise control as it will help keep your licence at 30/60 mph and I have had it up to 155 mph in Germany! To take it higher you just put your foot down, I've had 186 mph in German[:D].

Have fun,

Ross 997

I'd definately 2nd the cruise control, just far too easy to reach illegal speeds without realising.
For every day use I'd also consider the rain sensing wipers, they work pretty well as does the auto dimming lights.
Other than that I think you've got a pretty smart car to look forward too !!

Leave out the floor mats out and get your OPC to supply them FOC, together with a few other goodies to "sweeten" the deal. OPC's need to live in the real world - it's hard out there and good customers need to be looked after.Have fun! [;)]

Clive

The most important option of all IMHO is.....the sound of the exhaust.

Consider buying an aftermarket exhaust upgrade rather than the Porsche supplied system.

You should be able to get some help on this forum. I spoke with David F this weekend whilst visiting Specialist Cars of Malton and he is importing one from Belgium for his 997 Turbo and fitting it himself!

Cheers!

Basalt black can look very unblack in sunlight - think you'd be better with solid black IMO
Cruise - very handy to have in these days of roadworks and gatsos
Painted seat backs ? - with kids in the back ? - suggest you get them treated with armourfend or some other stonechip protective film - or opt for leather seat backs. White backs might be a bit too mucha contrast in a black interior.

Seems to me that you are going for a really "sports" look (GT3 style) so I'd seriously consider adding the aerokit and sports exhaust. A white aero C2S with black wheels will look very impressive and sporty indeed - "WOW" even :)

I agree with the comments above though that pure black on your wheels might look better than bassalt.

Sounds pretty good to me - I am also going through the thinking process and white with black wheels was my current thoughts although with the aerokit - I have Cobalt blue at the moment which I love but fancied a change and thought white would do that !
Rear centre console in white ? Bose ?
Certainly with small children I would not go for the painted seat backs.
One question - do those carrera sports wheels come with 295's or 305's at the rear ?

One question - do those carrera sports wheels come with 295's or 305's at the rear ?

They come with 305's [;)] The only wheel that comes with 305's on the 2CS.
Saying that, not sure about the turbo wheels

my Turbo wheels are 305's

The only thing I would add to my interior are leather additions of the bit inbetween the gearstick and console, and those behind the door pull.
Maybe its because I have Cocoa but they seem to really stand out as plastic on mine, the leather would perhaps of just finish d it off.

Many thanks for all the comments; I'll have a look at the Cruise Control just for the speed restricted motorway zones etc but generally I prefer to drive, but it is cheap??

Lancelot, I will try for free stuff, but (which is strange cos I do a lot of contract work for my job), I go all 'I love Porsche' when it comes to negotiate.....maybe I'll ask for a free car seat...

On the exhaust I really want the Sports Exhaust but have to keep some control of cost, this is something I may have to add later.

Yes agree to matt black on the wheels instead of Basalt, a lot of people have said this.

Painted seat backs...so many people say don't do it, it looks cheap, the kids will destroy it or its a waste of money, I may have to start listening to the advice.

So many choices....

Adam2S...I can't justify the aerokit with using the car for work; too low for daily drive and too in your face for clients etc....plus it takes the cost north of the budget I am desperately trying to force myself to stick too.........Little hope it would seem!!

Gary, I am aware of the other little leather bits from Rennteam and have the option codes.

Thanks again

Dear Mex99,

Get rid of;
red tail lights
park assist
painted seat backrest
rear section console in leather
al gear lever and handbrake
door entry guards
extd nav
telephone

Change the PASM to lowered Sports Suspension + limited slip diff, and see if you can stay on 18" wheels.

Then put the money you save aside for petrol and some driver training.

Just had a call from my OPC re my deposit on a facelift, delivery is now expected in July (2 months earlier than I was originally told). Not sure if you've chosen Sept for a build, if not & you're high on the list you may be getting it sooner than expected [;)]

ok heres my two penneth having just had a closer look at the cost of the options you have chosen.

From your current options, I would delete :

-£504 19" Carrera Sport Wheels
-£990 Wheels Painted in Black
-£721 Sports seats backrests painted in exterior colour
-£380 Sports Shifter
-£530 Sports Chrono
-£289 Three spoke Sports Steering Wheel in Smooth Leather
-£563 Rear centre console in leather
-£198 Dood entry guards in stainless steel

Total Savings £4175

Then I would add the following :
£3309 Aerokit Cup
£555 19" Turbo Wheels
£269 Seat Belts in Guards Red
£126 Porsche crest on head restraints
£333 Rear centre console in aluminium look

Total Added £4592

Difference is only an extra £417 and for me the car is a now seriously wow sports car. I dont think that the items I have taken away add as much as those Ive replaced them with for almost the same cost. I have deliberately only played with costmetic options here (and yes I include chrono as cosmetic as it does nothing for performance and nothing settings wise you cant do without chrono). Aerokit + sports exhaust are the two options I would tick if I were only allowed two options on the whole car.

I'm biased of course as I have aero, turbo wheels and red belts on a bassalt car... I am a company director and have never had any adverse comments from clients, staff or fellow directors about the aerokit - indeed I often get complements on how nice my car looks.

Try both specs on the configurator and compare looks inside and out... Each to their own I guess, thats the beauty of Porsche and its million option price list.

Yep, agree with you Adam, nothing in there that will affect performance or handling; all cosmetic choices. Ditch the aero kit, the centre console and stay on 18's which will work fine with the PASM (whereas the 19's will perhaps be to the detriment of the car) and buy petrol and driver training with the £4.1k of savings... £500 on the Don Palmer limit handling course followed by £1500ish on the two day Don Palmer/Mark Hales course for example (not affiliated, btw) would be good places to start. That will leave £2k for petrol and do more for the car's performance than wheels and a body kit.

Only point I would add is with that huge spec you will loose your shirt come re-sale, same with the colour choice, it may be in fashion now, but long term you are far better with GT (or another similar) silver if you also like that!

The standard S is great out the box without any extras & the facelift will no doubt be even better!

I'd probably add, Nav, Bose, Cruise & sports exhaust + maybe the phone & sports seats!
Once you have had it while you will want to add a few bits to keep it fresh, then you can visit the tequipment brochure & add a few internal tweaks, costs more aftermarket, but with your current spec you could buy the whole brochure!

my white 997S arrives tomorrow !
my spec is;
Aerokit
Carrera S wheels in solid black, with white outer rim
Sports Seats, heated
Sports Exhaust
Short shifter
Deviating white stitching
extended sat nav
Bose
cruise
autodim rear view mirrors & rain sensor
rear centre console in leather
sport chrono plus
smooth steering wheel with audio controls

think that's it

Saw a white car with all red tail ilghts - didnt look right to me;

I'll post some pics if you like when it arrives
David

Hello David
Best of luck with your collection tomorrow. [:)]

I saw a white C4S today with Red graphics and the Red lights..
With the amount of Red highlights on the car it did tie it all together..

I think the different options depend on a few thing that we don't yet know...
Is the car a keeper, if so then the option depreciation is not that big a thing..
GT, drivers or sports look, the options compared would alter what and how the car is used on an everyday basis..

I for one could not stand losing my PASM.. or as the wife says the make it softer setting.... [&:]
