help my clutch

[] please help!!!
this morning started my baby (1985 944 champaign silver) up no probs [] warmed her up, turned on the radio put my foot on the clutch.... and wahey it drops straight to the floor [][][] ?????

lifted the pedal up with my hand (feels spring loaded) back into position , touched it slightly and drops straight to the floor...........have been driving daily with no problem and no sign clutch was on way out

can anybody advise / console me? tell it to me straight........what can i must i do? how much will this cost?
can it be done outside my house as no clutch no drive[]

It sounds like a hydraulic problem to me. Either the master or slave cylinder has probably gone. You could do either job outside your house, but I suspect that you're asking whether you could get a mechanic to come and do it for you there. It's possible you might find a firendly one somewhere, but I'd expect them to need it at their workshop, so you'll need to get it transported there somehow.

Cool i've read a bit already this morning on previous threads.......hopefully this is a job i can do myself....how do i determine whether it's cylinders or cable?

should i follow clarkesgarage guide word for word.....because it does sound a bit fiddly.

The job is a bit fiddly, and yes, you should follow the intructions closely.

It can't be the cable, because there isn't one. It's hydraulic. There's a master cylinder operated by the pedal, a slave cylinder that operates the clutch mechanism and a pipe between them.

As I understand it complete failure is the slave cylinder, but replace both as well as the hose (with a braided one for less £ than factory) to be sure. Bleeding is supposed to be a pain.

Bleeding is a real pain if you have to do it on your own. The use of a glamorous assistant makes it a lot easier.

Can you not use one of the pressure bleeders, like the motive power bleeder ? Made bleeding my brakes so easy and only costs a few pounds from your local halfrauds.

Whenever I've tried to use one of those one man bleed things in the past, it's been more trouble that it's worth. I've tried various types over the years and none of them have worked as well as an assistant with a foot. I might try one of these motive power jobbies some time though, if you think they work.

If you take your old hose along to your local Pirtek (number from www.yell.com ) they will make up a shiny new braided one for less than a standard one from your OPC.

have decided, bought new master and slave 'from type 911'..as there was a leak under the car...also new sport exhaust []'also from type 911' will get her transported to Bob at RGA on Monday.......note to self must pluck up courage for these easy jobs[8|]
