Help needed - running hot!!!

ORIGINAL: peanut bleeding the coolant system on these is a nightmare job. My local indie put a new waterpump and belts in my car then didn't bleed it properly. The result was it had a blown head gasket and white smoke when I collected the car. They denied all knowledge and I had to pay them a further £500 to fix the head gasket[] Never been back there again.
Again another reason why I do all my own work.

HOORAY !! Finally things are running as they should [:D][:D][:D] Was at the fully despaired stage when I got a phone call from a "well weathered" mechanic. After a few "rights", "ok" & "thats not good" he suggested drilling a small 3mm hole in the thermostat body and trying that. What a genius [8|][8|][8|] Just been for a run and guage sits at about halfway when driving, creeps up to three quarters when stationary, fan cuts in and then guage comes back down. Other thing I found out when bleeding was if car is raised too high (ie on axle stands) it will not bleed properly. It needs to be on a slight slope or level - well mine does anyway [;)][;)] Anyway happy days - now looking forward to our outing to Wessex Car Show at Bovington on Sunday. Thanks for all the help & suggestions - learned a lot this week. Also have a few more 944 spares [:)][:)] Jeff

Good news dude, I had a similar topic a few months back and I too had a nightmare bleeding it properly. I bit the bullet in the end and took it to a trusted mechanic who did it with a pressure kit and was perfect after - a 5min job for them. I'm not sure about the drilling the hole thing ... to me it sounds like something that shouldn't be needed to do, it should be doing its job without that and thats prob not sorting out the underlying issue. But hey ... I'm by far no expert and if it works - it works! congrats!
