help needed with tyres for early 944T or s2

I haven't heard of any problems getting the sizes that i need...although i've not checked yet if they have been delivered to my son or not, I think he would have been on the phone if there were any problems. I wouldn't mix tyre types on our cars..in fact Porsche themselves state to only use the same make and speed rating for all four tyres on their cars.

Hi guys...just to update

i have spoken to 'Camskill' to check a few details as I have been getting conflicting reports about the SO2's being a current tyre?... They have put my fears to rest and i ordered the set a few minutes ago...total price including delivery is £268 which is a very good price. They should be with me Friday..hope so as the car is booked in for it's MOT Saturday afternoon.

Thanks all for your help and to George for introducing me to Camskill.

Many thanks

Pete

I wouldn't through choice, and won't be as I'm replacing all 4. To be really honest, though, it's not exactly critical on a car that only trundles to Tesco and back! [:D]

Mine's never tracked, and won't be going abroad, so things like speed rating are completely irrelevant. Even wear isn't a factor as they'll last many years anyway. What's important is wet weather grip, comfort, noise levels and braking performance.

hmmmm... I would be careful Paul.....to look at there's nothing wrong with the tyres that are on my car...plenty of tread...but they are at least 7 years old perhaps more and that's the problem...after 8 years rubber breaks down and thus they have to go as they are now in the danger zone, a zone that only shows itself when it bites which an owner of a 944T on FB found out the hard way recently. Admittedly they may be fine just going to Tesco's and back but any motorway use could be asking for trouble....better play safe than sorry..:)

Pete

Mine are only 5 years old. I don't like going much over that even if there's good tread for exactly that reason. 6000 miles or so per year that's not a bad wear rate either. All are nearly on the limit, should really have been done a year ago TBH, but that's 30K out of the rears, and a bit more on the fronts.

My only exception to changing tyres on a time, rather than wear, basis would be the P6000s, which don't degrade at all over time. In fact I think they have a half-life longer than uranium. [:D]

If you're going to quote what Porsche state perhaps you should fit N rated tyres...

I am......N3...:)

No idea.... camskill certainly have them listed under OE Porsche as do other suppliers...perhaps they are now being deleted from the range...they have the Porsche N rating so they are Porsche compound approved. I did inquire in case they were old stock....I was informed that Bridgestone won't sell any tyre older than 3 1/2 years and that the warranty covers them for 5 years...8 years being the time when the compound is expected to break down.

Pete

I think the Bridgestones are approved for the 964. I see people selectively quoting this and that about Porsche approvals while fitting different suspension and taking 2 or 3" out of the ride height on their cars. I fitted 4 new N rated PS2's to my car recently..... 18" dia [:D].

last update

tyre's arrived early this morning which is pretty impressive considering how far they had to come and also considering that they didn't arrived at Camskill until the afternoon, first class service....after recent discussions about age the first thing I did was check the DOT code.... all good, no more than 9 months old....oh and the sizes are correct too....:)

MOT booked for tomorrow afternoon....can't wait.....:>D

Good stuff, Pete.

Mine are being done tomorrow morning. First time I've used E-tyres, but Event tyres weren't very helpful. Strange, as they were great with my van tyres a few months ago.

cool... hope all goes well...we have a few bits to do to the car in the morning before going for the MOT...need to set the ECU map settings to zero so that the car runs purely on the new Vitesse programming...I'll get the car re-mapped once it's run in. Need to bleed the brakes, change the fuel filter and fit the new tyre's which my son will do at his place which is on route to the MOT...if all goes to plan I'll be able to tax her later tomorrow and she'll be road legal again...it's been a while......:)

Hoping it's all good, considering Serdi for the block work if I ever get around to building a 3.0 engine. Cant find much info on the pistons used though.

Not sure which pistons are available for the bigger bores...Paul (diver944) may know? mine are IASA race spec with an extra ring...also the rings are very narrow and light, about half the size of the standard rings

I recall you posting about the rings, I'd go conservative on the boost with thinner rings...

I'll be going conservative on lots of things while running in...after that I'm confident she'll take more than I would ever throw at her...she'll probably spend most her time just cruising.......I must be getting old....:)
