Help Please - CDR22 aux connection

New member
1999 C2 with a Becker CDR 22 and CD multichanger in the boot, so no MOST to contend with.

All I'm after is a 3.5mm jack connection to the Becker so I purchased this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BECKER-VDO-AUX-UNI-LINK-CABLE-3-5MM-JACK-IPODS-MP3-PLAYERS-/150787583737?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item231ba3eef9

It's only a few quid so no instructions but I know where it plugs in, however, when I first connect it with the mp3 and turn to CDC it plays from the MP3 for a minute and then says "No CD " and goes quiet.

I have checked and the aux setting on the Becker is on so what am I doing wrong. Have I got the wrong connector? should the spare pink/ red wire you can see in the photo be connected to something.

Any advice appreciated

That adapter looks like it is replacing the blue plug which normally goes to the CD changer. That being the case, I wonder if you should set the AUX to OFF?

Not sure about the pink wire. Could you take a photo of the other side of the connector, so I can see which pin it goes to?

Edit: Sorry!

Reading up on it, it seems you do have to enable the AUX input, so I'm scratching my head as to why it would cut out after a minute.

Edit: Did you turn the radio off after enabling the AUX input? Here's what the Becker USA site says about how to do it:

Turn radio ON Press and hold the TP button for about 8 seconds, until Becker 1 is displayed. Turn the Tuning Knob until AUX OFF is displayed. Press either button located directly under the Arrows on the display to change the present setting from OFF to ON. Turn radio OFF. Auxiliary Audio Input has now been activated.

Thanks for the fast response Richard, back of the plug looks like this

I thought the CD changer controls were on the adjoining green connector? Maybe I need to disconnect that to force it to the 3.5mm connector?

Thanks for the welcome by the way[:)]

The blue and green plugs are both used for the CDC. The blue plugs are the audio inputs, and the green ones for the controls. Definitely disconnect the green plug, as it will be confusing the head unit.

The pink wire connection doesn't seem to connect to anything on the CDR. Perhaps it is used on a Mercedes, Audi, or Blaupunkt unit.

Thanks Richard

I'll have a fiddle and let you know, I'll take some photos for an idiots guide as well (assuming it works)

Neil

It lets you connect an mp3 player or iPod to the CDR22 using the CD changer input. It won't control or charge the player though.

I see.

Will the cable work on my Traffic Pro High Speed?

If so, I will mean I dont have to source and buy a CD multi changer, whci is currently missing.

Thanks

I assume it has the same connections for the Porsche CDC-3 as the CDR22, so that being the case, it should work in the same way.

Edit: On the other hand, looking at the manual for the Traffic Pro, it doesn't seem to have the Auxilliary input option: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/legacy/clientftp/Register/996/manuals/trafficpro.pdf

Got it working. It was a matter of removing the middle of the 3 plugs . The pink wire does nothing at all

Bull the plug enables you to play an mp3 player through the stereo. You can't control it through the stereo but for my iPod I have used a Griffin controller(about £15) here:
http://store.griffintechnology.com/autopilot
which plugs into the cig lighter and charges the iPod and allows some simple control or play, pause, skip forward or back, it's enough for my needs and all told only c.£20.

Thanks for the assistance

Just been to the garage and got the manual.

It has a section that tells me how to switch the Aux on and off, so I think it may work.

Then I think it might!

Well I just ordered a cable as above, so we will see!

now, where does it plug into exactly? I know there are lots of sockets on the back!!

All "help for idiots" greatly received [:D]

Bull took loads of piccies to do an FAQ but realised I haven't set up my membership for the forum

In the meantime here is a pic of the rear showing the plugs, they come out of the socket in the top right hand corner and its the blue one you replace and if you have a CD changer connected you disconnect the green one

Hope that helps

Thanks Caterman.

The CD changer is missing, although I suppose the plug may still be in the back of the stereo.

So I just plug the new cable in and thats that?

Where did you route the cable through to front, so you can plug the ipod in?

Bull

You need to make sure the Aux setting on the head unit is "on", on my unit, you hold down the TP button until the Becker menu comes up then cycle through to Aux and set the on or off with the right hand rotary button, not sure if it is the same with yours.

You may have the wiring for the CD changer in place so you may still need to leave the centre connector unplugged. At least you won't have the same issue I now have.......I have 4 CDs still in the changer which I forgot to remove so I'll need to get the stereo out again, reconnect it etc etc .Ho hum

I fed the 3.5mm wire down behind the unit and out through the carpet trim panel in the passenger footwell. I had taken out the aircon unit which makes it all a lot simpler.

BTW this all relates to pre MOST hifi

Good luck
