Not sure how the 3 litre engine differs from the 2.5 in this area but on the 2.5 the rotor arm can work loose and rotate - but that should afect all cylinders - How did you identify the number 1?
The rotor arm can also crack near the tip allowing the metal end to flop about.
The cap could be damp or cracked inside a crack will isially show as a white trace where the spack is tracking.
If the ignition leads are original they will probably 'leak' easiest way to spot the leaks is open the bonnet at night I couldn't believe how badly mine were leaking and the car still ran - repositioning them may help (switch of the ignition first) until you replace them. Very pretty though like a fireworks display [

Injectors can have problems but it is unusuall, though in the US they have reported broken wires.
If you have a multi meter check the resistance of the plug cap - they unscrew from the lead (so substitution would also work), on my lux one went bad giving me a misfire IIRC £8 from an OPC.
If it was a spark issue I would expect a wet plug though so could be injectors / fuel pump (assuming plug was removed just after running).
A good specialist should be able to identify the problem relatively quickly so £50 of labour is probably nearer the mark.

Good Luck,
