HELP WITH 944 LUX 2.7

Guest

New member
Hi new to this forum and to Porsche ownership,

Bought a 944 Lux last week off the folks and thought everything was great until i was driving it tonight home from work and the temp gauge went through the roof and steam started coming from the bonnet, once i got home i had a closer look and their is a water leak at the back of the engine which is causing the water to hit the engine/gearbox and steam!

What could this problem be??

Any input would be great thanks.

here is my car!

Hi Ben. Welcome to the forum.

There are several short water pipes at the rear of the engine. It sounds like one of them has gone. It's nothing personal, most of us have had it at some time or another. [;)]

As you've lost the water now would be a good time to check all of the pipes and replace as appropriate.

BTW, if the water is leaking onto the gearbox you've got big problems. The gearbox is actually at the back in a 944.

Oh right!! thanks for that bit of info! HAHA!

I hope its just a pipe and nothing too serious, would that cause the car to overheat though??

Many Thanks.

Ben.

Not likely mate its my car now though my dad will do the work on it to fix it! he wont leave me with a broken car!!

Well i have found out the problem with my car,

Its apparently a vacum operated heater control unit! it has a crack in it, does anyone by any chance know of a part number for it and possibly a price for a new one?

Many Thanks,

Ben.

If you go on ebay and enter Porsche heater control valve there are some available from the international sellers, alternately you could try the breaker Porsches on ebay.I dont think they will be too dear?
Porsche shop,Halesowen have them for £40.10 on their web site.

Thanks Alan.... [:)]

If you go to OPC Exeter and mention the forum you'll get a 10% discount and get post free. Mine was about £34ish from memory for a 928 one.

well i will be getting one today i need the car as i am using my folks and brother for lifts and its not very nice getting them up at 5:30 to take me to work, so the sooner the better really.

Thanks for all the information people. Much appreciated,

Ben

Official Porsche Centre.

Often cheaper than other sources of parts, so worth a phone call if you need something. And they have good coffee [&:]

Thanks for that Paul, can you google these Porsche Centres??

aren't they just the dealers??

It's the official name for the dealers after they all had to go aluminium and glass. As Paul suggested Exeter is almost always cheapest if you ring them and mention "the forum". Porscheshop tend to resell parts you can get from the OPC for more than OPC prices, though they sell other stuff the dealer doesn't have as well.
