Help with definite purchase - please

ORIGINAL: Diver944 I seem to remember one meet where we lined the cars up and checked whose headlamp covers were flush with the badge panel when closed. Some sticked up and some sat low but only one or two were dead flush [:D] I think they were both S2's before Oli pipes in <<<<< joke [;)]
Sticked up? Back to skool, Mr Smith! [8|] Actually, I remember the meeting - 'twas Silverstone, about 3 years ago. And I instigated the thing; my light covers weren't flush and I was wondering how bad they were generally. (And, no, I still haven't adjusted them!) Oli.

ORIGINAL: robwright If you are talking about the guards red one then it isn't that nice. I went to view it with Andy Hairyarse and it is a right plum!!!! Worth £1k max if that. Certainly not the £3995 they are asking [:D] Funny thing is the dealer was asking me what the problems were with it. He didn't have a clue [&:]
Yeah that's the one - thanks for that - you've saved me a trip [;)] the dealer seemed evasive when I asked over the phone if he had paperwork to back up the 50k mileage - he claimed it had never been resprayed either lol

Maybe we imagined all of the overspray in the wheel arches and underneath then [:D] That was only the beginning though mate trust me. It wasn't even worth the phone call you made [:(]

It was a dog! Didn't drive to bad tbh except the brakes weren't too good. Only showing 10-12 volts on the gauge so guess not charging. As Rob said, has had a not brilliant respray, overspray all underneath, one repaired sill but rusty inside and one rotten on the other side, rust bubbles in paint everywhere, filler, blower doesn't work ..... you get the picture! Real shame as from the pics and description it looked mint and if it was it would be on my drive now! Only about 30 mins from us, if had travelled a couple of hours would have been well annoyed. He did say as it stands can have for £3k!! lol

just of the A1 in Sandy, Beds . . . quite close to you. £3995 = £1000 of value + £2000 respray & polish + £995 dealer 'overheads' lol Probably coming thru Huntingdon weekend after next if you want me to give you a price [:)]

Sadly I might have to part with mine if my Wife can't get settled in her new car, I bought her a 535D M Sport Touring, but she can't get the seat right and the suspension is just so hard for the country roads around us, if that's the case I will have the 535 and get her something else for the time being. I would be looking for around £3,500 which look exceptional value after reading the ad for the one in Sandy!!

Has it got run flat tyres on it? That makes the ride really hard. My 330D has, I've taken the pressures down to 36/38 psi and its much nice now!

Hmmm, I'd sell the Beemer and keep the 944: yours is a really good one and you'll never get it's real value back, and you'll be another person hanging on the forum regretting selling it. [8|] Interesting about the 5-series. Fair enough, it's an M-Sport so you expect to get firmer suspension, but it's a diesel estate for crying out loud. Ever since they started testing at the 'Ring, the race for more pure power and track-focussed handling has made the German cars hopeless on UK roads. Audi lost the plot ages ago, my neighbours S4 is the only one I've driven in years that has any feeling through the steering wheel, but even that understeers badly and the ride is atrocious. My Dad has an old-mans C-Class automatic diesel, it crashes over any imperfections, let alone potholes. But, I'm sure it would be 0.5 seconds slower round the 'Ring if it were set up to be nice to ride in, and I guess they are scared that no-one would buy one if it was comfortable. [:'(]

Fat Albert Ditch the runflats, for goodness' sake. I put proper tyres on my three series and it is vastly nicer in every respect having done so.

Yes, I think the run-flats will be ditched when they need replacing, unfortunately it came with 4 new ones, I think the biggest issue is the seat, it is extremely hard and not as adjustable as the 7 series' large comfy armchairs. When you press on it is a great car and you can make astonishing progress in a very relaxed manner whilst bettering 30mpg, embarassingly it is probably faster all around than the 951... We'll see where we are in a few weeks and make a decision, the other angle is that I now do up to 2,500 miles a month which is not entirely fair on the old girl

Paul McN posted "My Dad has an old-mans C-Class automatic diesel, it crashes over any imperfections, let alone potholes." Watch it Paul, I also have a C-Class sequential automatic diesel, but an estate to make it even worse in your eyes. LOL! [:D] It is an Avantgarde with the sport suspension pack which is much firmer, and lower, than the standard set-up and, yes, the odd pothole does show up but the road holding is superb, no wallowing or wandering and one can really drive it hard.

Absolutely nothing wrong with a 530D auto estate. Mine has the sportronic? suspension-lower,stiffer -in fact different front struts altogether with air rear self levelling on Star 81 ( I think ) wheels 17" dia.I had it remapped to 250bhp & in steptronc mode rather rapid-even quicker with higher change up speeds if you depress the DSC button & keep it depressed for at least 15/6 secs until the yellow light goes out-it spins the rear wheels gives 31 + mpg on motorway runs -I tend to drive in cruise control mode & the roadholding is impeccable-as I have taught my left leg to use the brake -on A roads like the A69 I can keep the turbo spinning on corners needing braking. It is also a very strong & safe car to be in-you can really hustle them along.I'd like of course a 535D but haven't got the money yet.

My old Limo the 7 series E38 has Alpina sports suspension factory fitted, can be a bit jiggly on rough roads but i can live with it in the twelve way electric sport seats ! off down the M6 in it tomorrow, 90 mph @ 2800 rpm................and high 20's mpg. A guy at work said to me that they stood a coin on the engine (BMW M60 V8) when at idle when the adverts on telly were on the go, soooooooooooooooo i had to test it and sure enough a pound coin put on the topcover at 850 rpm was rock solid [:)] Only down side is no BoooOOOOST !

Welcome to life on the 944 forum ! :ROFLMAO: Got to love it !
Really quite peaceful compared to the Alfa forum lol . . . . . . . though they've got better smilies . . . . imho Do you go to the R12 meets? ---- Any thoughts on the tyre combination 215/60-15 rear and 205/60-15 front? I did hear somewhere that the Porsche recommendation of 215s all round could lead to vibration on 944s? Are 195/65s all round (the other official possibility) an option worth considering or do you lose too much grip.

Well I thought about "BMW Appreciation Society" but then I'd forget where all that useful info you guys are helping me with was . . . . . . .[8D] And on that subject:- Any thoughts on the tyre combination 215/60-15 rear and 205/60-15 front? I did hear somewhere that the Porsche recommendation of 215s all round could lead to 'vibration' on 944s at around 50-60mph? Are 195/65s all round (the other official possibility) an option worth considering or do you lose too much grip.
