Help with noise on startup please

Were all the rollers/tensioners renewed when the belts were done, is the balancer belt tension correct, was the alternator belt replaced and is the tension correct on that, was it an experienced 944 mechanic that changed the belts ?

Hi. The rollers and tensioners were done the change before in 2011. Not sure how to check balance belt tension. Alternator belt was replaced at same time as cambelt earlier this year. Pretty sure tension is right on this but how do i check? Must it be 45 degree tturn in middle of belt? Yes experience 944 Mechaninc, Pie Performance, did belts. Am thinking of trailering it back there for them to have a look..

My wife's 1986 924S developed a peculiar squeek/squeal noise 2 years ago which caused me too suspect the water pump-so I changed belts ,water pump & those pulleys which seemed to have bearing problems -no difference so I gave up & took it to Unit 11 Porsche in Warrington-I know both John & Danny well & have used them for the odd things I found difficult.
They checked everything changed a further pulley all to no avail.

Totally baffled eventually using a stethoscope they located the noise to the oil cooler area-having initially thought it could be a balance shaft bearing.

With the cooler stripped, they discovered that the Oil Pressure Relief Valve-(OPRV) which was the original, had a thin wall steel sleeve around it which had become loose in the aluminium block port -this was oscillating as the engine warmed up causing the noise.
No spares available so had to buy the current replacement -1 part OPRV (2nd generation version) £££ gulp.

Problem solved -of course your engine may have that already but just my tuppence worth>
