Hi, New here, just picked this up.

Might be leaks round the rear lights - that's the other favourite
Play a hose over the back end & see where it leaks :)

Running rich - the AFM can be a problem, I believe you can fiddle around & change the track it runs on, although never done it myself. The DME temp sensor (cheap bosch part) can make it run rich if it fails (DME thinks engine is cold). What do the plugs look like?

OK, that is very usefull, being a BMW guy this is all new to me so these pointers will save me wasting loads of time, really appreciated Thanks
