HOT MARQUES 29NOV WHATYADRIVIN'?

OK I've been on several Hot Marques days, here's what to expect.
Quite an experienced bunch show up with a great varity of cars, Porsche , Ferarri, Subaru Evos.
The days in the past can suit the novice BUT don't be tempted out straight away with the crowd on a damp track.
It's a long day and as a novice I would choose to go on track when it is quiet and some cars are resting and then only for a few precautionary laps.
Some of the drivers are fast and perhaps less forgiving of a novice wandering to and from the racing line in damp conditions.
Sorry if this sounds a bit negative , it isn't meant to but the briefings in the past did not include special info for beginners and the day was generaly open pit rather than divided into groups, this invariably means that you will find yourself on track with much faster stuff than you and half you time will be spent looking in your mirrors -- I know as I tracked my Mini Cooper on the last one.
Also be aware that even in the wet you will give your brakes a good do'in at Knockhill and it is common to have no brakes going home which can be tricky.
However, the Hot Marques days are great fun as there is a chance to se just how good Porsches are compared to everything else and our Porsches will still be lapping at the end when the Italian and Japanese are parked up.

Assuming that the weather is OK, will be taking my super-duper digital camera with me, so will post some pics of the event, next week. [:)]

I hear that Saturday is full now. Just as I got my car back []. I will be there spectating on Saturday, so if you see a bloke with an SIDC hat on, wearing a Scottish Elise t-shirt, standing next to a 993 then that will be me.

Don't dispair when they say the day is full as very few drivers will have paid upfront.
Many times esp if the weather looks poor there are spaces on the day and this is what I am banking on with my Mini.
Also as the day progresses the numbers deplete, sometimes quite dramaticaly after lunch, then it is possible to buy reduced rate tracktime for the remainder of the day.

Strange! When I called on Monday they said there were only 2 places left, forked tongue speak methinks!![8|]

OK, I may not stand next to my car the whole day, just a bit of it [:D]

In fact I might not be in the 993 at all. I started it up this morning to go to work and the engine went mental - shuddering, back-firing and no power. It felt that it was only running on five cylinders. It eventually smoothed out after about half an hour limping to work.

Do these engines suffer from dampness getting in the electrics? It was outside last night and it was very wet.

Well, lots of nice cars to be seen, including a luuvverly shiny new GT3RS!! Sadly the weather conspired against us and eventually the track was shut 1/2 an hour early due to standing water on the track.
Pics to follow of said new RS on the track beside a "vintage" (I won't use old coz that's insulting!) RS.

Cheers,

Alan

I enjoyed meeting some of you on Saturday and was pleased how the car went. If I didn't introduce myself to everyone then apologies. It wasn't the weather for standing outside and chatting (although some were braving it!).
