Is it worth spending money on my rusty sills?

My car is worth more than that!

That guy is a dreamer, its never worth that much!!

Should I buy one, is it that rare!!

And all the other FAQ's that knowing the actual DVLA numbers of cars licensed on the road or sorn'd. Well here it is. All the data per model straight from the Dept of Transport.

Enjoy

PS It's not my data, its publicly available data from DoT and DVLA are notorious for errors in their data!! So don't flame me for errors or omissions!

a) That's fantastic, thanks.
b) how did you get it - is it something anyone can look up?
c) er, you couldn't make it a bit bigger, could you??!

Having had a very close squint, and without having assiduously added up all the numbers, it looks like the 924 and 944 between them have roughly halved in numbers in the five years from Q4 2005 to Q4 2010.

Tried to upload the .xls file, not supported. Tried uploading a jpeg, too big!! Any ideas?

Data is free to view on DoT website amongst many other stats. Just need to sift through and sort out what you need.

Yes there has been a high attrition rate to our cars.

Brilliant , absolutely top work . The question of how many cars are left and the rate at which they are expiring has always intrigued me since purchasing mine . Now , anyone fancy creating a graph to visually represent these figures ? I'm a bit surprised at the proportion of cars that are SORN - about 50 % of Luxs and even more in the case of the 924 .

I am not surprised by the number that are SORN in the Q4 figures. A lot of people take their cars off the road at the end of the year and only have them taxed for the summer.

If you can email me the xls file I would appreciate it, I will have a go at some graphs on Bank Holiday Monday.
PM sent with email addr...

Edited to say it's OK, I've found it on the DfT site

Could someone find me the following cars on the spreadsheet?

Rover P6 V8 (could be listed under 3500)
MGB GT V8
Jaguar XJ6 Series 1, 2 and 3
Jaguar XJ40.

Very useful! I'll have to put some graphs together for the 75&zt owners club. I have a sneaky feeling that the 75s are declining rapidly too because the cost of many repairs easily exceeds the value of the cars now... Not long before my tidy example will be a classic, lol.

Brilliant stuff. Thanks for finding that. That's got to be about as rare as an original 911, making WUF as rare as a 2.7rs so I'm raising the sale price to ÂŁ100,000 ovno. You don't see a 2.7 with a 10cd changer and sat nav [:)] call today to secure your viewing[:D]

Very interesting. I knew our 968 tip was rare but not rare, 53 cars total, wow.

10x as many S2's as 968 CS, and even the CS 2x as many as the tiptronic.

What's also interesting is the number of "Missing Porsches" = 4303 and "Unknown Porsches" = 557 on the Registered Database.
The numbers on the SORN database are 1365 and 16 respectively. All these figures are for the most recent quarter
I also noticed there were no 356s, 914s or 916s or rarer models listed which may partially explain the above.

The missing Porsche will be the older models when the data wasn't created for them and also 'specials' which don't fit the 'tick' boxes. Others will be bad data entered historically and could be made up by all sorts of models. DVLA do make mistakes in data input, they will be there forever as I can't see them purging the system and updating millions of cars information to fit the correct criteria.

Excellent find - many thanks, I'm sure that will be of great interest to everyone else who's pondered over the 'how many left' question.

To follow on, is there any source for the actual numbers by model of U.K cars sold ? - the only data I've seen just shows a break down between U.S and rest of the world.

Feel quite common now I own a 944 lol

Although I guess there are only 37 924S Auto's left because they weren't a common option and they are a tad boring [:'(] Did love mine though and at least its still on the road [:D] Owned one of 37 cars of its type though so that s pretty cool

Great find. You ought to post this under a general forum because a lot of interested parties don't read all forums like some of us (with nothing better to do on a wet morning) do.

Its not just wet mornings , most days reading the forums is the only thing getting me out of bed . [:(]

I'll put in in the Porsche Post, assuming there's no copyright issues or anything? [8|]

If I'm reading this right, my Lux is one of only 20 "standard" manual 944s (i.e. not S, S2, Turbo) that was not SORNed during Q4 of 2010!
Can that be right? Are there so few Luxes used year round?

I read it differently, the two figures are the total number of cars. Still means nearly half the Luxes still in existence are laid up in winter, just when they're most fun! [&:]
