How many miles a year do you cover?

its not as if these cars are worth that much even as ultra low milers.

You've not read the Classics Monthly article then? [8|]

The 944 Register Secretary of the Porsche Club GB, no less, says:

Just make sure you buy a good one, there are lots of high-mileage and poorly-serviced example out there.

Journalistic license is alive and well! []

It also quotes me as saying it's my only car, so at least it's wholly inaccurate lmao....

Still a cracking read though. I recommend it highly, as I would a well-maintained 944 with lots of miles over one that'd sat in a garage unused for years.

All right, all right we'll buy one ok?[;)]

He's right though (or you are) there are lots of high mileage cars and poorly serviced cars out there. The two are just not mutually exclusive or inclusive.
Can we talk about something else now please?

I'm going to run mine until something fundamental gives in the engine (and it will in the end) and then its going to Jm or Baz H for a new heart that's bigger and better.
Who knows when that may be. Are there any 300K cars in the poll?

Buy two....[8|]

Actually it's part of my pension. In fact, it's all of my pension. All I need to do is raise the value of a decent S2 to about the £800K mark. []

Paul,
I have bought 2 !
Regards mileage IMO it is not definitive, a car that has been parked up for 9 years will need a lot of attention mechanically and depending in the conditions that it has been stored may be rotten.
A 16k example that has only been driven short distances will not be anywhere near as good as a regular long run car as we know most engine wear happens in the first few cold miles.
My own cars do net get used everyday but i try to get them out at least a couple of times a week weather dependant................salt is a no no !
On the flip side they get warmed up and cooled down properly and are constantly looked at ,mechanically and bodily rather than just shut away and left.
Both will be getting new oil and filters shortly and the new 220 a brake overhaul.
I am probably in the minority in that my cars are constantly monitored but not driven on a regular everyday basis, but i defy anyone to find a credible fault with either.
As stated there is no definitive answer to mileage V condition it is all if's and buts but they should absolutely be used rather then parked up.

Struggled to keep the 968 down to 7K which was the insurance imposed limit. Now it is on normal insurance so may go up somewhat, probably about 10K miles next year. When the S2 was my only car I did anywhere between 10K and 17K miles per year in it, and tbh I enjoyed it more. When I had another car I hardly ever drove it, some years maybe 1500 miles.

Keeping a car and hardly ever driving it is not for me any more I am afraid, just costs far too much for to little return, hence the race/track car. Having a sunny afternoon weekend car, which is what the S2 was just didn't do it for me.

Limited to 5k on insurance, but may have to pay to up that now that I have a new contract (at last!) and am using it almost daily to get to the station (16 miles a day), I have done 3,200 since the beginning of April, so will see where I am at the end of the year, my Insurance will charge £20/1,000 mile sextra plus £25 admin fee to change it, so not bad.

It has just flopped over onto 197k and has had a lifetime of daily use and good maintenance.

Seems alot Fiend, how old are you out of curiosity?

Edd

How old? Just turned 47, but I had a unrecoverable insurance claim 2 years ago that required a full respray on my previous car (a Ford SportKA) due to some lowlife scum keying every panel, and as a result my premium went up.

I don't mind the price of the premium, like I said before - It covers me for 15K per annum mileage, it's covered for being parked on the road and for use to and from place of work.
