How to check suspension

Hi Alex
With regards to tyre choice, I run Dunlop Formula "R" on my 993RS.They are a road legal track tyre, but I think give the best Track/Road compromise of the main brands.
For example yesterday I had a fabulous drive through North Wales on some of the best B Roads in the country. Conditions were, as you can guess, interesting!! however the Dunlops handled the cold, damp roads well and the RS felt great.
Earlier this year on the same set of tyres I managed 2nd in the sprint at Brands!!
So I would recommend them if you just want one set of wheels, plus they are hard wearing and alot cheaper than the competition.
P.s I dont work for Dunlop Iam just chuffed with the product[:D][:D]

Hi John
To be honest never looked at the Dunlop....I must do some research on these tyres.....if its got decent wear rate as you say and the Price is right, its worth considering. It sounds like you are really enjoying the RS Most people including myself would say sunday was too damp to go on a pleasure drive [:D].
Also are you sure you don't work for Dunlop, I won't tell anyone honest[;)]

Thanks

I have just looked up my last receipt back in July. For a set of 4 the total was £594.00+vat
and the sizes:-
Front..235/40/ZR18
rear...265/35/ZR18
Dunlop Formula "R" DO1 J
In terms of both wet and dry performance, wear rate and cost, they are difficult to beat.[8|]

Yes your quite right, the conditions were not perfect yesterday, which is why I have just spent 4hours this morning washing and polishing!!!!!!!
However, deserted Welsh mountain roads,RS barking through the trees, Flat 6 singing..........etc.......IT was worth it[:D][:D][:D]

John & Algray,

I plan to try a set of Dunlop's next, I have spoken to many users of both these and the Cups at track days and the feedback seems to be Pilot Cups better in the dry (not massively but you can tell the difference) and Dunlops better marginally in the wet.

I must say that at Combe and Bedford I was able to corner better than my fellow' drivers on Dunlops but then I am running PSS9's, RS anti roll bars, RS engine mounts and with the RS set up so maybe this was why?

The real killer is £800 for a set fitted and balanced incl VAT, whereas the Dunlops are cheaper but you need to pay extra to get them fitted and balanced, I got mine (Cups) at Bedford this year and the lazy option was the best.

I have done two track days on the cups, plus local cotswold motoring and they still have loads of tread left on them, and yes I am a very spirited driver! so they do get a real caning!

Try R compound tyres on the road with decent suspension and RS set up and you can have real fun, nothing comes even close, but all in the dry.

Can't wait to meet an EVO VIII from the Mitsubishi HQ here in Cirenencester to give it a real test!!!!!!!!!!

I have a second set of wheels - £350 on ebay, fantastic condition - and i run SO2's for the wet and nothing can touch these tyres in the wet IMHO

John & Jmspear,
Thanks for the input, sorry I have got to ask this question Jmspear, "Dunlops are cheaper but you need to pay extra to get them fitted and balanced" Why do you need to pay more to have them fitted and balanced.

AlexG

I understand that the Dunlops are supplied effectively as mail order and the you have to arrange fitting, (so I have been told by a number of guys who run Dunlops but this is only heresay I don't have practical experience, others may wish to chip in here?) whereas the Cup's are only available from selected (motorsport) dealers of which there are only two or three! But the club events always have a supplier in attendance at track days - plug for Steve's excellent efforts here!

How do I know, 'cause my local tyre supplier spend a happy hour on the phone trying to get them (cups) for me!

John

HI jmspear
Yes you are correct, the Dunlops are mail order direct from their Motorsport Division in Birmingham Tel 0121 306 6000.
When ordering you have to nominate your local tyre house for them to deliver to and for fitting and balancing I usually get charged approx £50

John

Did Brands Festival track day on these Dunlops in avery similar car to Johns.........they re brilliant in the wet and none to shabby for track days when it dries out, though in the dry ,short of full slicks ,nothing IMHO beats the Cupsports .............usually try and use them on wet days only had maybe a handful[wet trackdays] this year plus maybe 2/3000 miles roadwork they look almost unused ................ clearly on dry runs one may use more rubber!
Have nt tried but believe Corsa s may be a good allround solution ,may have a go next year ................
