How to get more noise??

ORIGINAL: kennyboy

I recommand Cargraphics Tim, high quality, save a little bit of weight and lovely sound at idle and accelerating. plus a little less back pressure.

Welcome to come and listen to mine, I'm in Leeds.

Hi kennyboy, im going to get some Cargraphic mufflers for my turbo next year, I got the cargraphic catalog from stuttgart connection. did you get your exhaust from them?, and is it just the mufflers you have, or do you also have the sport cats?
I cant wait to get them, and im pleased someone has had good experience with the Cargraphic option.

Hi Neil

Yeah I got my cargraphic mufflers from suttgart connection, they had them in stock - got delivered to my indi within a couple of days.

I just have mufflers for now and I love em. I will get getting the cargraphic sports cats too as soon as I can afford them (never!) as these will compliment some other engine tuning that's been done.

Good luck Neil - I know you'll love em. Bear in mind though a 993tt will never sound like NA 993 - the turbos muffle the sound when you're on the move. But with the windows down and accelerating it sounds fantastic, it's just the in-car sound with the windows up that isn't very loud. also they sound wicked (yes I'm afraid that's the first word that came in to my head) when idling, more than 1 person has come up to me and commented how 'evil' they sound at idle....and I don't mean the motor boat sound you get from muffler bypasses, something more sophisticated.

Slightly off topic I know, but the title of this posts will attract other vintages of turbo.
Just wanted to say that as turbos are generally quieter (and sound not as exciting) than normally aspirated 911's, it is VERY worthwhile replacing some of the exhaust components. I know many 965'ers who have replaced their rear silencers or cats, and even the wastegate bypass (improves the high boost sound). Works well for 930's as well.....
Or you can be greedy like me and replace all of it! I absolutely love the sound(s)!!

Sorry Tim been away sent you this

Sorry for the delayed response
I just cant get the damn things across
I revisited the Fabspeed site and the video tapes are representative of the noise, you need to also look at the video as well under the Maxflow muffler heading that gives you a better idea of the noise when cold as its even louder and mine pops and crackles(car is parked outside is house garage withe the test engine next to it). The best parts of the tape and the best representation of the
sound is when he walks round from the side of the car to the back and vis a versa and he is right on, when he says it sounds like one of those wooden speed boats from the 60's. Again inside the car you don't notice the noise much when cruising but just when you are accelerating though with the acceleration you tend to be leaving much of the noise behind you for the benefit of those around so to fully appreciate you need to let some one else take off from in front of you.....
One slight problem is that quite a few people have a resonance/drone noise between 2500 and 2800 rpm when cruising, I don't care as I love the noise and just change down if it starts to annoy so if you like lots of noise muffler bypasses if you want some more than std then go RSR's.
Have a Happy New Year

Did you pick up the Cargraphics Neil? hope you like them.

Once ive paid gordon brown his doe in jan, hopfully soon after then.
most likely spring time. Watch this space.

Hi Gordon

sorry for not replying earlier - i did get your email but have been rather busy at work since the end of Dec.

I checked the Fabspeed site and i agree the sound is pretty amazing. The possibility of a resonant drone at certain speeds is a bit worrying and i think others have even found this with RSRs.

anyhow, no money right now for frivolity, so will have to wait for now!!

Thanks again for all your advice on this matter - i'll let you know which direction i decide to go; in April/May most likely.

Best Regards and Happy New Year

tim
