How Unique is your 944?

Following on from the discussion on the Silver Rose cars I thought I would start this thread. I will start us off.

I have an MY90 250 turbo with no sunroof (I have not heard of another one). It also has bridge spoiler and CS alloys from the factory (also never heard of this before). Full M030 spec, zermatt silver and full burgundy sports leather (which I put in, came with half leather (vinyl!) porsche script sports seats from factory). The car was the first MY90 turbo in the UK, was specced by a director from OPC Reading and was owned by Porsche for it's first 18 months and 18k miles attending PR events and photo shoots about the country.

I think the car is unique in terms of year and spec. I may be wrong!!

Stuart

Unusual spec Stuart and a nice car. What about an Alpine White (genuine) Turbo S with a black sports interior? Any others in this spec in the Uk? I imagine it'll make a silver rose Turbo S quite common in comparison.

I would agree Steve that your turbo S may be one of a kind as may my sunroofless MY90 turbo. Unless anyone can enlighten us further. Common as muck those rose silver affairs!! Stuart

My one occasionally sports a pair of black furry dice... that must make it "unusual" but probably not unique.

My turbo is a '90 with only one optional equipment - M990, which is not too usual on the LHD market and consists in the full cloth seats + cloth inner door panels. This is with a marine blue interior. The only other car with the same spec and colour combo I have ever spotted was one for sale on PH several years ago. It was a turbo too, but had the sunroof, which I don't miss at all! As for the S2 it's not unique at all, although crystal silver cars seem to become rarer these days.

Id expect Stuarts car to have either a bridge spoiler or Fuchs wheels, but not both. The sunroof is less confusing as the 'must have a sunroof' rule was PCGBs greed rather than Porsche themselves (although theyre the same firm ultimately).

Yes Simon. I take it you mean bridge spoiler or CS wheels? MY89 turbo's had rubber spoiler and CS wheels whereas MY90 had bridge spoiler and turbo D90's to the best of my knowledge. Therefore making bridge spoiler and CS wheels from factory very unusual. I thought I would throw in sunroof delete as I know of no other late UK turbo's without a sunroof. Stuart

That was indeed what I meant. The sunroof isnt really a delete though, as it was always an option as far as the manufacturer was concerned, but something that PCGB insisted on punters here paying for. Do you know for certain that the car came with the forged wheels Stuart? Its always possible that they have been changed. Much of the parts that I sold in the nineties were fitted as upgrades by the buyers, so there are a lot of unoriginal cars around now and few owners who bridge the 'then to now' chasm.

Mine is a 1988 Turbo S (non- sunroof, M030 brakes, LSD, CS Wheels etc) that came from the Factory with Can Can red leather, and two tone body working - lower half is shaded dark grey. I had the heritage verified by Porsche OPC reading, in fact there's actually an archive photo somewhere of the car at Reading as it came from the Factory Yours Chris

My 944 Turbo is unique in the fact that he still shares a driveway/garage with Yobo when Yobo hates his guts! A very placid car my '44 turbo. [;)]

That sounds truly special!

Ive never seen a factory teo tone 944 Chris, and Id be very interested to see some pictures. Is it 'full leather' (ie dashboard and centre console as well as real leather rears) Can-can and, whether it is or not, is the visible plastic trim a sort of shiny piano black too? Id be just as eager to see pictures of the interior too, if you can. Simon

In answer to your questions, yes it's full leather including the dashboard etc. And yes the visible plastic is the shiny black 'piano' finish, although I've started converting this to standard dull black plastic. I'm trying to find the OPC picture at Reading and will post when I find this !

Agree about the sun roof - IMHO most countries imported cars with what was believed to be the most desirable combination of options (for their clientele) and planned to sell them out of dealer stock. For North America - sun roofs were pretty much "standard" also. My MY1991 S2 which came out of Japan is an interesting combo - left hand drive, no sun roof, no cruise control, vinyl and Porsche script seats, split rear seat, adjustable (right hand drive) headlights and a roof mounted antenna (appears to be a phone antenna as it does not match the 968 roof radio antenna) yet there is no evidence that a car phone was ever fitted. The windscreen has an internal radio antenna. Also the car has NO AIRBAGS but it does have AC. The VIN is a ROW vin and the option stickers are missing. A COA from Porsche North America is useless as the only options listed are "16 ventilier" and side moldings. I unsuccessfully tried to contact the dealer that sold the car originally to determine what was an option and what was standard for a "made for Japan" model. So - it is possible that my car was ordered from the factory without a sunroof but with a phone antenna or maybe that was the normal spec for Japanese market cars. Any one know?
