HVAC Temp Sensors

Great stuff Rob.

I just called my not so helpful RS store who wouldn't order anything up for me as I do not have an account.

I was directed to the web site where I had to register and pay by card. The website also kindly whacks on £4.95 for delivery!

Glasgow had no stock anyway. Still got change out of a tenner so not bad for getting 3 sensors renewed.

The RS chappies sounded much more helpful down south Oli. Never mind!

Stuart,

You should have said; I'd have posted you my spare two components for free, and I'm sure Rob would have done the same! You should have asked!

I have an account with RS (a useful thing you can easily get if you have company and VAT numbers), which opens up some very good customer service from them. If you are in a position to open an account I'd recommend it.

Oli.

Cheers anyway Oli. I never thought to ask for your spares!

I was hovering over the cancel order button when the delivery charge appeared then thought stuff it, still good value vs new sensors from OPC and completed the sale! Just not as good value as you two guys.

On the plus side there will now be 2 more spares to add to the 4 already collected by you and Rob which makes two full sets for the next lucky people to ask.

Cheers

Don't know if anyone would be able to help with the heating system on my 944s, ever since I've had it I've had the same problem , the heat is either on ( Volcano setting !! ) or off completely !

Mine has the dial which just goes from blue to red, I've had this on other cars and usually you can set a comfortable setting somewhere between hot & cold. during the winter the heater on the `44 is very good but gets too hot, when I turn it down it suddenly turns goes cold, you turn it up a notch and it's roasting again, there doesn't seem to be any gradual increase. ( I can hear a servo clicking in/out at the transition from hot/cold.

Is there suppose to be some form of thermostat on this system??

Any help gratefully received as I'm fed up with constantly turning the heat on and off !

Thermistors have now arrived. Thought I would check PET before I started as I had a sneaky suspicion there were more than one type of sensor. I have seen 2 types I can recall. One with a long (2/3 inch) black tube on with white bit on the end (thermistor hidden) and one stubby one with thermistor visible.

I checked PET and there are actually 3! One for 944/944S2, one for cabrio and one for turbo. S2 is the black tube one and turbo is the stubby thermistor visible one. Are they the same thermistors? I initially thought the difference was aircon/non aircon but I suppose most S2's are non aircon and most turbos are aircon equipped?

Oli - You should have had long tube type but you said no tube and may have fell off? Do you have stubby one maybe? If so that doesn't make sense!

Rob - You should have stubby type? (And have replaced with described RS thermistor to good effect?)

Can you confirm what types you had and if indeed thermistor is the same? If so, why the different sensors?

Hmmm

Stuart

Stu there is only one type of thermistor and I am not sure of all these tubes you are talking about?? Break down all the eqpt and you will see the raw component. Then replace it. These won't or may not look like the originals but do the same job. Hope this helps mate or if not please help me.

All the thermistors are the same as the CCU can only read one value range. Don't look at PET as it won't tell you what you want to know. All you need to know is change the thermistors. There are 3 for late dash. One on the air intake. One in the mixing chamber and one on the sniffer fan for cabin temp.

Cheers Rob.

There are 3 different parts for the intake sensor. I've seen two of them, that was what i was describing. I thought they may have different thermisters. If not, which you seem to confirm, then they are just different shapes. That's what was puzzling me!

I will change them anyway on the grounds of your research!
