Hi all,
My 1989 S2 clatters at startup which clears after a while and then sounds alright. It sounds really smooth once it’s warmed up and there seems to be no issue with power etc.
I’ve not taken it to the garage yet and I figure it’s the hydraulic lifters and one or all of them need replacing.
It’s great when the engine is warm but it’s a bit annoying.
I think it would be ok if I used it every day but since I don’t and probably wont ever use it as my daily driver.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on:
(a) Tappet cleaning fluid / Snake Oil.
I’ve never used it and didn’t really know it existed until reading up. Seems to thin the viscosity of the oil and potentially clear out clag but would it bugger the engine
(b) replacing with non-Porsche parts since I don’t have a spare grand to waste.
I have been reading up on VW Corrado lifters being the same fit but would like to know if anyone has successfully done this or can recommend a good route for OEM parts. The VeeDub ones are allegedly INA 420002210.
Let me know what you think.
Cheers
Gareth
