oops [:(] We were able to operate our 944 door remote using a cell fone once. If you could find the range of frequenies used for the door control you might find something in your house that could open the door . I'd try every remote control and gadget I had before driving 20 miles in the snow [;)]
Thanks peanut , managed to pick the lock using only a safety pin and a hair clip (useful wife again).

your wife is a locksmith ? [:D] well done.. I've always wanted to try picking a lock with those things you see on the TV .

Might be an idea to have a spare garage remote around the house in case the other one packs up. [;)]

I'm still a novice at these things, but sounds like the thermo fan switch is dead?

When you last ran it, presumably it got hot and the fan came on and like me (when it happened to me) probably just ran inside and didn't notice ... if the switch is knackered the fan stays on, then drained the battery which was a pain in the butt without anyone near me to jumpstart from!

Dead thermo fan switches have happened twice to me, not long after getting both cars.
Once like the example above - car was hot, fan stayed on. The other, the car got hot but fan didn't come on. Dead switches each time - I guess if the switch dies whilst the fan is on for some reason it stays on - perhaps is unable to receive the signal to break the circuit.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm always eager to learn :)

Soooo your skinnblista is a proper cockney then eh? like Me. I was born in Bethnal Green so well in the range of the bell of St Mary-le-Bow .
I've traced my forebears back 200 years in Holborn , Spitalfields and Shoreditch so generations of the blighters on my Father's side .
Sister was born in The Royal London, so she is (just about) a cockney. I was born a long, long way away so no chance of qualifying!

Do you ever come back and visit the area of your heritage? I suspect that Spitalfields and Shoreditch probably look a bit different to the way your ancestors would remember them ... they are both achingly trendy now, so utterly unaffordable for the plebs like us!

Bethnal Green is still a dump tho'. (Mind you, it does have the Museum of Childhood, which remains one of my favourite London museums, so it's not all bad. In fact, I was in the MoC yesterday and they had a very good exhibition on childhood autism on. Well worth a look, if you are in the area.)

Oli,.

wow you sure do get about oli ! I thought you were still down my way in the SW ? and you never stopped by [:D]

I haven't visited the Bethnal Green Museum for over 35 years. I too think its an extraordinary collection give its modest size.

Ten years ago my company manufactured and supplied interactive audio to Museums and I remember feeling rather shocked at one Museum looking in the display cases and seeing all my childhood toys. Thats the day when you stop feeling old and realise that you really are old lol[:D]

Nick,

You never invited us in for a cuppa! Nope, 'twas just a weekend hoon with a very good friend. Back to the grindstone now ...

Yeah, MoC is depressing from that point of view. It's exactly as you say; looking at things in display cases that you had, or wanted, as a child, and realising that times have moved on a lot. (Mind you, you can also look at the kids in the museum and be profoundly hopeful that you weren't as vile as they are when you were their age ... I hate kids, me!)

But then, this is a forum for cars which went out of production nearly 20 years ago, and which some would say belong in museums themselves ...

Oli.

if you re-read my first post at the beginning of the thread carefully it should answer your question.[;)]

The manner in which the radiator fan switch operates on Turbos and some later cars like the S2 is different to earlier cars. there are two radiator fans fitted which run at 2x speeds and use a 3x terminal switch as apposed to a 2 terminal one.

Suffice it to say that although the radiator fan switch is invariably to blame it cannot be assumed. You should get a schematic and fault find and test the circuit and components to be certain.[;)]

Not that you need it with all the other responses but this happened to me once, same symptoms. Only caught my attention because the fan was running as I left the car after short journey on a cold day. I was suspicious so came back 10mins later to find it still running. I just took the plug off the back of the fan untill I could buy a new sensor. Easy fix.

I pulled both the fuses [;)] connector would be easier I guess but the bonnet hatch and pass door were all frozen solid with ice
